YES HE IS!

The inspiration for my painting on the front of this tract came from Charles Pabst’s painting of the Hidden springs of the Rockies. I painted a 6 by 11 foot scene for our church baptistery. As I view it, God reminds me of His goodness.

GOD’S GOODNESS IN NATURE

“Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: Thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water…. Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly…. Thou crownest the year with Thy goodness; and Thy paths drop fatness. They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side” (Ps. 65:9-12). “The Lord is good to all and His tender mercies are over all His works” (Ps. 145:9). “The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord” (Ps. 35:5)

GOD’S GOODNESS PREVAILS

The goodness of God should never be judged by the events and circumstances of our short stay on earth. God always works with eternal wisdom and power. As an artist, I usually establish a vanishing point to which lines flow. This gives dimension to objects drawn in perspective of each other. Objects get progressively smaller as they approach the vanishing point thus creating the illusion of depth on a flat surface.

God taught me to set my vanishing point in eternity. Bad things that happen to us must never be viewed from only an earthly perspective. My sickness as a teen could have been interpreted as bad. But, the closer I get to my eternal vanishing point the more I see it as part of the eternal worth of God’s plan for my life. I discovered my art talent during my sickness and now use it to illustrate eternal truths. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28).

GOD’S GOODNESS IN SALVATION

The Lord extended an invitation to me and I accepted. “And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb” (Rev. 22:1). “And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely” (Rev. 22:17).

We all understand physical thirst and the desire for a cold drink of water. There is also a thirst in the soul and spirit that can only be quenched by God’s living water. We have created many substitutes for satisfying the inner dryness. We try pleasure, possessions, performance and projects, but we still find ourselves empty and thirsty. Only Jesus Christ can quench the thirst within. Jesus was thirsty and He sat at a well. A woman drew water. Jesus told her of LIVING WATER He could give her.

“Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13,14). God demonstrated His goodness by sending His Son to earth to suffer and die for our sins.

“For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers [various] lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:3-7).

Dear Lord Jesus, I am that thirsty person that needs your living water. I repent of my sinful attitudes and I ask Jesus Christ to save me from my sins. I believe that you died on the cross in my place and that you were raised from the dead. I trust your grace and mercy alone. Thank you for the free gift of salvation. Amen.
