“Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you’re going. So how can we know the way?’ ⁶ Jesus answered him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:5-6).

We all know what a door is. It may be defined as:

“A movable piece of wood or glass or metal that swings or slides open and shut so that people can enter or leave a room, building, vehicle etc.”

Most human beings pass through a door every day. In all houses, there must be a door into the house. Most houses have several doors—for example, kitchen doors, bathroom doors, closet doors, etc. In offices, banks, restaurants, and businesses there is usually a main door through which people may enter. Before you can gain entrance into a house or a building, you must go through a door. Only thieves will try to enter a building through the window or any other means.

The human body also has many “doors.” For example, we eat through the door of our mouth. We are sometimes advised to guard the door of our lips to avoid talking too much. We can see through the doors of our eyes. We are told to guard the door of our hearts against evil.

Doors are important to human beings because they give access to something they ordinarily would not have access to. For example, if you have a house that is filled with food and there is no door to get in, you can smell the sweet aroma of the food all day. However, without a door, you cannot get in or gain access to the food.

Just as we need a door to gain access to something or someone, we also need a door or a way to get to God. Jesus Christ is the door to salvation and eternal life. He came to the world to save sinners and to reconcile them to God. The first man, Adam, had sinned and was banished from the Garden of Eden. Jesus Christ left his Father’s throne in heaven to die for our sins. His death on the Cross of Calvary means that we can have everlasting life.

Today, Jesus is calling all to come to the Father through Him. In the Book of Revelation 3:20-21, He gives this wonderful invitation:

“Look, I’m standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to my voice and opens the door, I’ll come in and we’ll eat together. ²¹ I will allow everyone who wins the victory to sit with me on my throne, as I have won the victory and have sat down with my Father on his throne.”

Dear Friend, Jesus is extending a warm invitation to you. He has prepared a banquet fit for a king and He is inviting you to dine with Him! On the table, He has laid out feasts of salvation, deliverance, joy, and peace—as well as an eternity with Him, free from the effects of sin, sickness, and death. Jesus is the door to Eternal Life!

Come on in! The feast is set before you!  Jesus is saying today:

“Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Place my yoke over your shoulders, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble. Then you will find rest for yourselves ³⁰ because my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

If you want to accept this invitation today, pray to God. You can say something like this:

“Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and I confess my sins before you today. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I want to know you personally. I open the door of my life to you and ask you to come in and be my Lord and Personal Savior. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be. In Jesus name I have prayed, Amen.”
