For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. EPHESIANS 2:8&9

There are many misconceptions about salvation. One is that if your good works outweigh your bad ones you will make it to heaven. But, no amount of good deeds can wipe away our sins.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. ROMANS 3:23

It’s because of our own sin that we come up short of God’s glory, so our sin had to be dealt with.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ROMANS 6:23

What we get for our own personal sins is spiritual death or separation from God. That is what we have earned. Period. And this separation eventually leads to an awful place of torment called hell, BUT the good news is that God loved us so much that He gifted us eternal life through Jesus Christ. This gift is something given out of God’s love for us, not because we earned it—because we didn’t.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:3&4

This gift of eternal life is completely free to you and me. It cost Jesus His life, but He rose again the third day to give us victory. Jesus finished the work for us to be saved from our sins on that cross.

IT IS FINISHED!

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. JOHN 19:30

As Jesus hung on that cross, just before taking His last breath, He proclaimed, “IT IS FINISHED!” The work for our salvation had been completed! Hallelujah!

The only question that remains is, do you believe?

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth… ROMANS 1:16
