There are basically four things you need to know from the Bible to have assurance that when you die you will go to Heaven.

1. Everyone is a Sinner

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

The reason we “come short” of God’s glory (God’s righteous or perfect nature) is because “all have sinned.” “All” includes me and it includes you. First of all, you must agree with the Bible and admit that you are a sinner.

2. Everyone Owes a Sin-Debt

“For the wages [penalty or debt] of sin is death.”
(Romans 6:23a)

This is speaking of eternal death, which is also called “the second death.”

“And death and Hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14)

Secondly, you must realize that if you die in your sins, you must pay the penalty for sin by dying in Hell forever.

3. Everyone’s Sin-Debt Has Been Paid

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

Although sin brings eternal death, God wants to give us eternal life. Notice that eternal life is not through going to church, being baptized, or being a good person, but it is “through Jesus Christ.”

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

The third thing you must believe is that Jesus has paid the wages of sin by dying for you, and eternal life is only through Him.

4. Everyone Can Be Saved!

Although Jesus died to pay everyone’s sin debt, not everyone is on their way to Heaven. You must personally receive God’s gift of eternal life. You must believe in your heart, and ask Jesus to save you.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

If you would like to trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour, simply bow your head right now and humbly:

1. Admit to God that you are a sinner.

2. Tell Him you believe Jesus died for you.

3. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and save your soul.

4. Believe that He promised to save you.

You can be sure! “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13)
