God desires to be your best friend. He comes to you with His heart in His hands offering you His love. It is difficult to trust the people we can see, and more difficult to trust God who we cannot see; yet He is there ready and hoping you will permit Him to prove Himself (Malachi 3:10).
Have you tried God lately? We will try everything before we try God; relationships, money, drugs, etc. And then we come to God in broken confusion ready for Him to put the pieces back together. And He does. He always requests that we come to Him with our burdens and concerns (Matthew 11:28) and He will be there.
Why not try God first? Building a relationship with anyone takes work and time. We invest so much work and time in relationships with people who are potentially just as selfish as we are, or more so. We can take that same work and time to invest in a relationship with God. God is always interested in our good. And God has already risked it all for us.
Can you risk it all for God? Friendships are a risky business. Every time we open our hearts to love, we open our hearts to hurt and disappointment. If we give in to God, we will find a love like no other. God is not only the author of love, He is love. The only way to ever understand love is to get to know God.
How can we love anyone without loving God? It’s the love of God in us that allows us to love unselfishly. God loved us so much that He GAVE us His son (John 3:16), knowing that we might not accept the gift.
How is such a love possible? Nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). The first step toward developing a friendship with God is talking to Him. Talk to God now and learn from the master of love.
Dear God,
Please come into my heart today. Teach me how to love you and accept your love. Amen
WHAT IF GOD WAS YOUR FRIEND?
God is our Savior, Lord, and Father, but He also wants to be our friend:
No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:15
As in any friendship, God desires a relationship with us:
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
Truly trusting God as friend is a blessing with bountiful rewards:
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8
BE BLESSED!!
