Being a parent is the most important job you will ever have. Parenting can be a wonderful balance between God and humanity when we remember the intimate relationship God extends to us as our father.

Do you find parenting to be difficult at times? Parenting is not an easy job. Children enter life needing and then wanting constantly. When they begin to exercise independence they often want to cast their parents aside and proclaim their freedom. The transition isn’t easy and all of the challenges in between, remind us of how imperfect we are. The very best thing a parent can do is be an example to their child and show them how to live a life of excellence.

How can you be a good example? In the Bible Paul said, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).” Being a good example means following the best example. “What would Jesus do?” has become a phrase in popular culture, but the idea is true. Ask yourself what would Jesus do in a situation like yours and do just that. It isn’t easy and there is no specific manual for your child, but following Jesus gives you the guidelines that are needed.

How do I know what Jesus would do? The practices of Jesus are found in the Bible. Jesus taught with stories. He kept company with those He wanted to teach. He protected the powerless from the powerful. He was forgiving. He spoke out against those who did wrong, even among those who were closest to Him. When those He loved failed, He showed them how to do it correctly. So spend time with your children, protect them, forgive them, and love like Jesus did. Parenting isn’t easy. And we will make mistakes, but with patience and love, parenting will become partnering with Jesus. And Jesus is in charge.

Dear God.

Help my children. Help me to be a better parent.

Amen

WHAT IF I SAW PARENTING THROUGH GOD’S EYES?

Becoming a parent is blessing from God:

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3

Our responsibilities including teaching them:

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 6:7

One of the best ways to teach and lead is to be an example: Not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 1 Peter 5:3

Disciplining a child prepares him for adult- hood and is an expression of your love: Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. Proverbs 13:24

BE BLESSED!!
