Are you thirsty?
Have you ever been so thirsty that you can’t imagine going one more second without something to quench your thirst? All that you can think about is finding even one sip of cold, refreshing water. Our bodies crave water. In fact, the human body can only survive a few days without it.
How about your soul—is it thirsty? Do you feel that something is missing in your life? Maybe you’ve tried to fill the void by staying busy with work or friends. Perhaps you’ve sought satisfaction in buying new things. Some even try to quench their inner thirst with relationships, parties, alcohol, or drugs.
Finding satisfaction
Eventually, you’ll realize that none of these things can satisfy your soul. But your thirst can be quenched—by Jesus! He said, “If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink” (John 7:37).
Jesus is offering you much more than a glass of water. Listen to what He promises: “I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely” (Revelation 21:6). Jesus is the “living water” that can quench your soul’s need—both now and forever!
Why are we thirsty?
Our thirst is a symptom of being separated from God, the true source and sustainer of all life. We are at a distance from Him because of our sin: “Your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you” (Isaiah 59:2).
Now listen as God explains why the pleasures of this broken world cannot satisfy the soul: “They have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water” (Jeremiah 2:13).
Thirsty for ever
Jesus told of a man who, after he died, cried out: “Have mercy on me, and … cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame” (Luke 16:24). Unless we are brought into a right relationship with God before we die, our sin will condemn us to eternal separation from Him.
The good news is that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take away our sin. He did this when He laid down His life in our place. There, on the cross, He was separated from God and endured the punishment our sins deserve. Then He rose from the dead so that we might have eternal life and be with Him in heaven forever.
Drinking the water of life
The water Jesus offers is free. It will quench your soul’s thirst, cleanse you from sin, and give you everlasting life! It’s time to stop drinking from the empty, polluted fountains of this world. Step up to the fountain of God’s love and forgiveness and let Him satisfy your soul.
Put your trust in Jesus Christ who died for you and rose again: “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).
“Let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22:17).
“Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst” (John 4:14).
