We think of Heaven as an awesome place, but most people really don’t know how to get there. What if Hell is a real place, too? We certainly don’t want to end up there. Only one person died, defeated death, and came back to tell us about the next life. Jesus, the Son of God, left instructions in the Bible that explain how we can get to Heaven.
Road Map to Heaven
1. The road you started on doesn’t go there.
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” The road everyone starts on goes to that very bad place called Hell. The Bible explains that “all we like sheep have gone astray.” “There is none righteous, no, not one.” Being sinful has a really bad penalty. “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment,” then God shall say, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment.”
2. Other roads that do not go there.
Being good and doing good things doesn’t get us to Heaven. “It is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” You can’t buy your way there. “Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”
3. There’s only one right road.
Jesus said, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” “In Thy presence is fulness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
4. How to get on the right road.
You must confess that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus died to pay for your sins, and ask forgiveness in His name. You must absolutely believe that only Jesus, God’s Son, can save you. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Get on the right road today. Talk to God and tell Him something like this: “I am a sinner and deserve to go to Hell, but Your Son, Jesus Christ, paid for my sins by dying on the cross. Please forgive me. I want to turn from my sins and accept Him as my Savior. I want to follow Him as my Lord. Thank you for showing me the way to Heaven. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Proverbs 14:12; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10; Hebrews 9:27; Matthew 7:23; Matthew 25:46, Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 8:20; John 14:6; 14:2-3; Psalm 16:11; Romans 10:9-10
Want to Know the Truth?
The Scriptures are perfectly accurate and fully sufficient, being given to man supernaturally by the Spirit of God. There is only One God, though He functions simultaneously as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created life and the universe in six days. Adam and Eve were the first humans, but their disobedience brought a curse on all mankind. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, came to earth through the virgin birth to remove the curse by dying on the cross for our sins. He arose from the dead after three days and later returned to Heaven. Those who truly believe in Jesus (who He is and what He did) will confess their sins to Him and go to be with Him when they die. We cannot do anything to earn eternal life or to escape eternal Hell, except believe the truth about Jesus. Satan deceives people about the truth, but he will eventually be cast into an eternal lake of fire along with all those who reject God. At any moment Christ will come for His believers, and after a time of supernatural destruction, He will set up His glorious Kingdom on earth.
