Hanukkah: The Feast of Dedication. A time to remember what God has done for us, in enabling the rededication of His Temple after it was profaned and we remember the supply of oil that lasted for eight days.

We also light the Menorah that has a row of eight candles with the Servant Candle above it in the middle. One candle is lit everyday by the Servant Candle, as it is the source of all light for the other candles. The Servant Candle being “light” should also bring to remembrance one of God’s promises to us. The fact is that one-day the Servant of God, the true Light, Messiah will be amongst us. Isaiah 42:6 calls the Servant of God “a light.” As the Servant Candle gives light to all, so will the Servant of God give light to all of mankind.

This feast is a very unique feast. It was not kept in the Tanach, but the events leading up to it were prophesied in Daniel chapter 11 as a unique prophecy to Daniel. Daniel also gave a unique prophecy concerning the Servant of God, the true Light. In Daniel 9:25,26, it says that “from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks…Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.” Daniel is telling us that from the decree to rebuild and restore Jerusalem there will be 483 years. Then Messiah will appear. He will appear and be cut off (die) before the second temple is destroyed. This means that Messiah was here in the first century.

If this is true, then who is the Servant of God, Messiah, the true Light?

What does the Tanach say about who He is?

Only one Jewish man fulfills all these verses and more concerning the true Light that gives light to all man. That Man is Yeshua (Jesus of Nazareth). He actually said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). He is the Servant Candle that gives light to us all.
