1. What does it mean to be saved? (Salvation)
- To be preserved, kept, or delivered, from harm, ruin, and destruction (Hell).
2. Why do we need salvation?
- “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way” (Isaiah 53:6).
- “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one … for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:10-12, 23).
FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST
1. How do we obtain such a great salvation?
- “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, NKJV).
- “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish [go to hell], but have everlasting life [in Heaven]” (John 3:16, KJV).
2. Why Jesus Christ, instead of any other prophet or religion?
- Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6, KJV).
- “He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
- “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in Heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:3-4).
- “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:6-8).
- “For He [God the Father] made Him [God the Son] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21, NKJV).
CONCLUSION
In the beginning God created man and woman in His image. Not to say that man was God, or even looked liked God, but shares some of the characteristics of God, such as having a never-dying spirit and the ability to reason and choose. Mankind was instructed to be holy and righteous, to reproduce, and to subdue and care for the earth. Humanity was the crown of all God’s creation (Genesis 1:27-31). In order to receive anything else of Scripture, one must start here—God created Man/humanity!
In doing this, God intended for humanity to have constant relationship/fellowship with Him willingly. Even in this willingness, He gave specific instructions for humanity to remain in this constant fellowship. We were told, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” What did we do? We took from that very tree and ate (Genesis 2:16-17, 3:1-7).
This event is called THE FALL OF HUMANITY. Now, because of this, we all have come under the power of sin and rebellion against God. Sin is in our nature from the time we are born, and because of this the wrath of God is upon us. This results in spiritual death, physical death, and separation from God (Romans 5:12). If we are still in this state when we die, or when He returns, we will face the wrath of God and CANNOT inherit ETERNAL LIFE! (Galatians 5:21b). We must be born again! (John 3:3).
