“As it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27

The Holy Scriptures state “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14).

You breathe God’s air every day, yet have you given any thought to the brevity of your life, and how fleeting and frail it is? Death is certain, and according to the scripture on the left of this card, so is judgment. Our Creator sums it up in Romans 3:19: “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”

He tells us in the Bible that “by the law is the knowledge of sin” (Romans 3:20). Sin is the violation of God’s laws in thought, word, and deed. For example, the Son of God told some men, “that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). To speak the name of God or his Son Jesus Christ in a flippant manner or as a cuss word is blasphemy and a violation of the command of God. God says, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain” (Exodus 20:7). You have lied and/or been deceitful in your lifetime. God said, “Thou shalt not bear false witness” (Exodus 20:16). The last command is “Thou shalt not covet” (Exodus 20:17). If you have ever been discontented with what God has given you and desired what someone else has, then you have coveted. These are only four of the ten commands and if you are honest with yourself, you must already acknowledge your guilt before a holy and just God.

God says “Cursed [condemned] is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them” (Galatians 3:10). In other words, if you intend to gain heaven by YOUR merits—with its eternal joys and bliss—and escape God’s wrath and ultimately what he calls “the lake of fire”, you must keep all God’s law from cradle to grave and this is an impossibility

There is, therefore, but ONE hope. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written, ‘cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree’” (Galatians 3:13). His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead is the “good news” or gospel, and by your receiving him, you can be delivered from the wrath and judgment of God.

If you know your need, humble yourself, acknowledge your sin before your Creator with a purpose to turn from it, and receive his Son, Jesus Christ: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
