Many people believe heaven is like a giant amusement park in the sky that everyone gets a free admission ticket to when they die.

Wheee!

Your grandpa’s in a much better place now.

Yeah! a much better place.

Some get even more carried away.

He’s up there playing golf with God.

Yeah, golf with God.

Huh?

He’s probably having a glass of tea with grandma and talking over old times.

Huh?

I can just see him now, sitting beside a beautiful heavenly fishing lake casting his line into the water.

… While he watches down over us.

Oh brother!

Where do you guys get all this?

Well, to be perfectly honest …

… It’s too scary to think about what actually might happen after death.

What if heaven isn’t how I imagined it?

What if everyone isn’t going to heaven?

What if there really is a hell?

And what if I’ve been wrong in my beliefs and I’m headed for hell myself?

Auugh!!! how can anyone know for sure?

The best thing you can do is to not worry about it. Whatever happens happens. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Are you sure? What if God expects me to decide what i’m going to believe in and what I decide now could affect where I spend eternity?

Wach of these people believed something different. Would a loving God exclude any of them from heaven just for not believing in Him correctly?

What if people actually exclude themselves from heaven?

What do you mean? Who would exclude themselves from heaven?

Maybe some people would rather trust in themselves and their own abilities rather than trust in God.

But don’t you think most people are basically good, and are just trying to do the best they can to be accepted into heaven?

Yes, but if you read the bible, you will discover that’s not good enough

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

Well sure. nobody’s perfect.

Yet how can you expect a holy and perfect God to allow sinners to live in heaven?

Well …

What are we supposed to do?

God knows we’re all sinners. That’s why He sent His son, Jesus, to come to live among us and take the punishment for our sins upon Himself. Look here …

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

Jesus, huh?

Yeah. look what else the Bible says about eternal life.

God really does want us to spend eternity with Him.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16,18

Okay, it sounds like if we don’t place our trust in Jesus, it’s our decision to not have eternal life with Him.

That’s right.

So making no decision means a “no” decision with regard to heaven?

Yep. Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave to give us eternal life when we decide to trust in Him.

Well, I’m not going to wait another minute. I’m placing my trust in Jesus now.

Dear God, thank You for sending Your son, Jesus, to die for my sins. I now turn from my own way of doing things and now place my trust in Jesus to save me for all eternity. Amen.
