The word lingo is defined as the vocabulary of, or phrases used in a certain subject or by a certain group of people. Having or knowing the lingo does not make you a part of that group—it just means you know the words they use. The same is true with being a Christian. It’s not enough just to know the lingo—you must also know the Lord!

The Bible tells of such a group and the end result of knowing the lingo, but not knowing the Lord.

Matthew 7:21-23 says,

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Being saved is about a change of heart, not just a change in words. It’s much more than just religious speaking when the preacher or church folks are around.

Confession with your mouth (agreeing with God about being a sinner) does have its part…

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.Romans 10:9

…but if you’re not sincere about allowing God to change your heart, it’s just vain words.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.Romans 10:10

When a person is truly saved there will be a noticeable change within their heart that goes beyond the words that they use, and is revealed through a changed life.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Corinthians 5:17

So the question is, are you an acting Christian or an actual Christian?
Is just having the lingo enough?

If you were to die tonight do you really have what it takes to get you into heaven? Do you just have the lingo or do you also have the Lord?

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. Matthew 15:8

Repent of your sin and call out to Jesus from your heart today!

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.Romans 10:13
