Most of us, when gazing at the stars or looking at photos of distant galaxies, know that “There must be a Creator who designed it all.” In Psalm 19:1, the Bible states that “The heavens declare the glory of God.” Note that no attempt is made to even prove there IS a God in that verse; it’s assumed that He exists and that His power is revealed in His creation! But we don’t even have to look to heavenly bodies to see God’s wisdom and glory, all we have to do is look within our own bodies!
The human body is a masterpiece, regardless of our personal physiques, how we (or others) rate our outward appearance, or how we may feel at the moment.
Consider the artwork on the cover
1. The heart pumps blood through your body 100,000 times a day
2. The lungs breathe in oxygen and feed it to our cells
3. & 4. The large and small intestines eliminate waste
5. The kidneys dispose of poison, filtering 1,500 pints of blood per day
6. Gall bladders are a reservoir for bile
7. Livers are absolutely necessary to sustain our lives, performing numerous chemical reactions all day tailored to the body’s needs
8. The brain is our master computer
9. Spleens cleanse the blood quite effectively in case of emergency
10. The pancreas controls our blood sugar
Psalm 8, verses 3-5 talk again of God’s creative power displayed in the heavens but then it transitions down to stating that this same Wisdom is present in His creation of US! No wonder that David declares, in Psalm 139:14, that “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”! The artwork doesn’t even show your eyes. Do you think your eyes see? While eyes are a key component for vision, your brain is taking the image that comes through your eyes and interpreting it, so in effect your brain is seeing. Our hands are also not pictured. Did you know that if our thumbs were two inches longer or shorter we would lose all dexterity in our hands? And regarding our feet—our feet contain 26 small bones designed to help us move, but without our big toes none of those bones would be of much use.
Why did God design us so amazingly?
Well, just as He made the heavens to declare His glory, He created man (and woman) to glorify Him and show forth His power and wisdom, as well.
(See Isaiah 43:7 and 21, 1 Corinthians 10:31, and Revelation 4:11, as only a few examples of this.)
Sadly, as we see in the beginning chapters of Genesis, Adam and Eve sinned and with that, our bodies, which would have lived forever in total perfection, have been compromised. That’s why sometimes our body parts fail us. That’s why we get sick, and get diseases. And that’s why we, eventually, die (Hebrews 9:27).
You think our bodies are amazing now? They are, but they would have functioned absolutely perfectly for all eternity, had Adam and Eve not rebelled against God’s warnings of the consequences: namely, Death.
But the worst implication of what we call The Fall is that we, as Adam and Eve’s children, have each inherited the disease of Sin. By nature we do not know our Creator, or serve Him or submit to Him as He originally intended! Romans 3:23 states that “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Isaiah 53:6 adds “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way.”
You see, the heavens above continue to glorify God and reveal Him without interruption, but mankind (and the earth itself) are all tainted and polluted by The Fall. And we REBEL!
Yet, God still desires that we, His creations, will serve and glorify Him. That’s why He sent His Son to pay the penalty for our sins in HIS Body, and to redeem us! Romans 5:6-11 states that “Christ died for the ungodly” and that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Indeed, we can be “reconciled” through His “atonement.” 1 Corinthians 6:20 says “You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
This RESTORES the possibility that the reason He originally created us will be fulfilled! And God wants our “hearts” (not just our physical hearts, the “heart” of our very beings) to “beat” for Him every single second, not just 100,000 times a day!
Soon, those who are reconciled to Him and serve Him will receive new, perfect, eternal bodies and souls!
Will you pray for Him to save you, even here … and now … and TODAY?
