How Jesus Found Me On That Ole Lonesome Road
It was August 13, 1995, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
My wife, Linda, and I were having trouble in our marriage. She was going to a little country church, so I decided I would start going with her. After a few months, it seemed like the preacher was talking about me every week. So I quit going.
Things only got worse. One night after an argument, Linda left and went to her pastor’s house. Pastor Russ came to my house carrying a little book called Eternal Life. He read it to me and asked if I wanted to accept Jesus.
I told him “No! I don’t think that’s for me.”
The next morning, I got up at 3:00 and headed north in my truck. About an hour into the trip, tears began pouring down my face. I started talking to God.
I said, “God, if You’re real, I need You to show me a sign.”
A little later I saw an old blue sign in a field. It said:
CHRIST IS THE ANSWER.
I thought, “That’s my sign!”
But then I said, “God, that’s not what I meant. I want something BIG.”
Later, a little church van pulled alongside me. A woman rolled down her window, pointed her thumb toward the sky, and drove on.
I thought, “God sent a church lady to tell me You’re up there and listening!”
But again I said, “That’s not big enough.”
I kept driving and kept talking to God.
Later that day, after unloading my truck, I headed home. On I-39, I looked out across a field.
There it was—a huge sign with the face of Jesus, with a crown of thorns, pointing at me. The sign read:
THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!
I began to cry. I confessed my sins, and I tried to remember the prayer that was in the book, but I couldn’t remember how it went. So I just started praying from my heart, asking God to forgive me and save me!
Something happened that I can never fully explain.
Jesus lifted my burdens. I felt like I was floating. The weight of the world came off my chest.
I couldn’t wait to tell Linda—and call Pastor Russ.
That day, on that lonely road, Jesus found me.
And He can find you, too.
THE ROMANS ROAD
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
THAT MEANS YOU!
You don’t have to wait for a sign.
Jesus has already given you the greatest sign of all—He gave His life for you.
If you are ready to trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, pray something like this, from your heart:
“Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I ask You to forgive me and come into my life. I confess You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me and giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer and truly placed your faith in Jesus, tell somebody! Get a Bible. Find a Bible-believing church. Begin following Jesus. Jesus still saves!
