THE GIFT
Imagine someone who loves you gives you a beautifully wrapped gift assuring you that it’s the best gift you’ll ever receive. When you arrive home, instead of opening it, you set it down and forget about it. Weeks, months, even years go by, and the gift remains unopened. It simply sits there, collecting dust.
As crazy as it sounds, this happens every day around the world. The gift of everlasting life from God is available to everyone, yet many never open it.
Gifts are not deserved. Otherwise, they would be called compensation or awards. A gift is also free to the recipient since the giver has already paid for it. While God offers everyone the gift of life, the Bible says that all people have earned the opposite. “We like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way” (Isaiah 53:6a) and “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a). In other words, our sins must be paid for with death.
WHO IS KING?
When we ignore God’s loving work on the cross for us, we reject Him as king and set ourselves up as king in His place. This act separates us from God. If we die in this state, we will experience eternal separation from God. “They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might” (2 Thessalonians 1:9).
THE GIFT OF LOVE
But God displayed His love for you by coming to earth in the person of Jesus Christ. “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus lived a sinless life and died in your place when He was crucified on the cross. He then conquered death through His resurrection from the dead, thus overcoming sin and death.
His sacrifice paid the price for your sins, and He offers you the gift of eternal life. Through faith and hope in Jesus, you can be fully forgiven of your sins. Romans 6:23b says, “The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Nobody knows how many more days they have on earth to open the gift. The Bible says, “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
Receive the ultimate gift
Open and receive this gift of salvation with faith and hope in Jesus Christ. He exchanged His life for yours by taking your sins upon Himself and dying in your place. Believe that Jesus fully paid the price for your sins on the cross, and that He rose from the dead so that you could have the forgiveness and the life He offers. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9-10).
God’s gift of forgiveness and eternal life is waiting. Will you open it?
the gift of salvation
When you acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord of everything (including you!), and trust in Him as your Savior, He will forgive your sins, adopt you into His heavenly family, and grant you eternal life.
Don’t delay! This important decision will not only impact your life here on earth, but your eternity as well. Eternity is a very long time to be separated from your Creator, God. Nowhere else will you find this unconditional and eternal love. God loves you and says, “Come to Me” (Matthew 11:28a).
“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
