In the 1971 movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” as Willy Wonka gives a group of visitors a tour of his chocolate facility, he introduces them to a brand of candy called “The Everlasting Gobstopper.” Right before Mr. Wonka hands out a piece of the gobstopper candy to each of the invited guests, he ensures them that one could suck on them constantly, and they will never get any smaller.
Did you know there is something that takes place in the Bible that is very similar to the Everlasting Gobstopper? When someone believes the Gospel—that Jesus Christ the Son of God died for their sins, was buried, was raised the third day, and appeared to the twelve disciples (1 Corinthians 15:3-5)—they get the free gift of everlasting life in Heaven which can never perish or fade. In 1 Peter 1:3,4 we read: “In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can NEVER PERISH, SPOIL OR FADE … kept in Heaven for you.” When someone believes in Jesus, they receive eternal life. Jesus said in John 10:28: “I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my Hand.”
How do we get Everlasting life? We have to realize that we are lost sinners that deserve God’s judgment in Hell.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
“But the Gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Eternal life can not be worked for or earned (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Receive the “Everlasting Gobstopper” of eternal life by believing in Jesus Christ today!
