Dear friend, God loves you. He wants you to be saved, all your sins covered and forgiven, and to have eternal and everlasting life in heaven. He doesn’t want you to perish, but there are things you need to understand to receive the gift of salvation.

According to the word of God, salvation is by grace through faith. It is a gift from God, not earned by man and his own works so that no one can boast (see Ephesians 2:8-9). It is eternal through Jesus Christ; it is not a temporary, probationary life (see Romans 6:23).

In the book of Acts 16:16-32, a jail warden asked the apostle Paul and Silas what must he do to be saved. They answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

The apostles didn’t say “be a good person or “go to church” or “do penitence” or “pray the rosary” or “give this sacrifice”, and other religious stuffs. They said to “believe on Jesus Christ.” To believe in Jesus to be saved means to put your faith in Him as the Son of God, the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior, your Intercessor, Mediator to God, your Redeemer, your High Priest who died for you, was buried, and rose again from the dead and ascended back to heaven. To believe in Jesus means to put your trust in Him as your only access to heaven, your only way to eternal salvation. Apart from Him, there is no other (see Acts 4:12).

How to put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and receive the gift of God:

1. Humble yourself and admit you are a sinner.

The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “ For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” The Bible says in 1 John 1:8, “if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves...”

Psalm 51:5 says, “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Jesus said that “there is none good but one, that is God” (Matthew 19:17). All are sinners. Only God is good. To receive grace and mercy from God, admit you are a sinner and cannot save yourself. Your good works cannot wash away your sins from childhood up to now.

2. Realize that sin has consequences.

The Bible says in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death...” Because of sin, death came into the world. Not only do people die physically, there is also hell waiting in the afterlife.

Matthew 10:28 says, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Revelation 20:14-15 says, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Not only does an unsaved soul goes to hell when he dies, he is also cast into the lake of fire which is called the second death. Revelation 21:8 says that “…all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Lying is a sin, and liars go to hell. Have you lied before? To receive grace and mercy, admit you are a sinner that deserves hell and the lake of fire. No sinner and no liars are welcome in heaven.

3. Christ died for you (see Romans 5:8).

Believe God so loves the world, including you, that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to die for your sins even before you came to this earth. But just because Jesus suffered and died for your sins does not automatically save you and get you to heaven. You must be born again in spirit and in truth (see John 3:3-8). How? Believe and receive Jesus Christ, according to John 1:12-13 and John 3:16.

4. How to receive Jesus Christ:

According to Romans 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Confess means to call on the Lord Jesus, confessing your faith in His death, burial and resurrection as the only acceptable sacrifice and only atonement for your sins and the only ransom for your soul. His death for your salvation. His life for your life eternal.

Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

How do you confess with your mouth and call upon the name of the Lord Jesus? Like the thief on the cross who changed his mind about Jesus Christ and believed in Him and called on His name and asked to be remembered when He came into His kingdom (see story in Matthew 27:38-44, Luke 23:39-43). Jesus accepted the thief’s prayer and saved him, forgave all his sins, and the thief went to paradise that day. He didn’t go to purgatory or hell. He went straight to heaven. You can also put your faith in the Lord Jesus and directly ask for the gift of salvation and eternal life, and He will give it to you freely because He is good. He wants you to be saved. You can call upon the name of the Lord right where you are, whatever you’re doing now, because now is the day of receiving the gift of salvation, not when you are dead and face judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

Friend, if you really believe in the Lord Jesus, who He is and what He can give you, you would knock on the door of His heart and ask, and He would give you the water of life. Now.

The wages of sin is death but this is the good news:

• Salvation is a gift from God to those who believe, who put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and ask for the gift of eternal life.

• Salvation is free; you don’t have to pay for it because it is already paid by the Lord.

• It is everlasting and eternal because it is eternal life. It lasts for eternity, for ever and ever, and you cannot lose it because eternal life does not begin when you die; it begins the moment you receive Jesus Christ and trust Him as your Savior, Mediator, Advocate, Intercessor, Messiah; you become born again and become a child of God: saved, sealed, preserved, and kept saved by the love and the power and the faithfulness and might of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, the Triune God, and nothing and no one can pluck you from His hands (read John 6:40, 10:28, Romans 8:35-39, Ephesians 1:13-14, Jude 1:1).

My friend, Jesus didn’t promise a purgatory where after you die you have to burn or be roasted in a hell-like fire to pay for your sins to be purified. Jesus died for all the sins of the world. He said, “it is finished” (John 19:30). His sacrifice was enough; you cannot add to it. He went to hell and back for you because He loves you and wants you to be saved and go to paradise (see Acts 2:27-31). Believe the gospel: the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I hope you will humble yourself, acknowledge that you are a sinner, and you cannot save yourself. Believe in the death, burial and resurrection and put your whole faith in Jesus Christ and pray directly to Him. If you don’t know how to pray, just say, “Dear Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner. I deserve to go to hell. But I believe You love Me. You died on the cross for my sins, you were buried but on the third day rose again bodily from the dead. You hold the keys of hell and death. Today, I put my faith and my trust in You as my only Savior. Please forgive all my sins and give me the gift of eternal life. Please take me to heaven when I die. Thank You for Your goodness and grace. Amen.” (Or you can pray your own direct prayer and confession to the Lord asking Him to save you and give you the gift of eternal life). Ask and it will be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened (read Matthew 7:7-8).

Dear friend,

Salvation is a gift; do not leave earth without it. Call on the Lord Jesus Christ now and ask. He is just a prayer away. Then after you get saved, do great and good works on earth in the name of Christ, live a clean life, serve Him and have treasures and rewards in heaven for the glory of God. Be a worker for God’s kingdom. The field is ripe for harvest, but the workers are few. Read the Bible to grow spiritually, pray for wisdom, ask questions, listen to the Word of God being preached, because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

May God bless, protect, save and give you grace, and your family and loved ones.
