The world says it’s an unlucky day, but I will always remember it as the day God gave me a miracle.

It was Friday, December 13th, 2019—just three days after my 67th birthday. I saw my doctor that morning because of a sinus headache. He prescribed some medication and found no other issues.

Friday nights, I attend a faith-based addictions program called Reformers Unanimous. I was a challenge group leader, so in spite of my headache, I went. Things went well and after the group session, I was heading to the restroom and realized that I was going to pass out. I said, “What …”

There was no time for more, or for a last-minute profession of faith.

Two friends heard me sigh, and saw that my lips were blue. One went for help and our assistant pastor helped me down to the floor. Two friends took turns doing CPR, until another brought the AED and shocked me back to life. I was told that my heart was stopped for 8-10 minutes.

When told to pray, the group all dropped to their knees, begging God to spare me. In addition, there was a large group in the sanctuary practicing for the Christmas program. They were also told and even the children knelt and prayed. There was also a group kneeling in the bathroom.

Then the EMTs came to take me to the hospital. I’ll never forget seeing all my faith family in the hall rooting for me, when they took me out. There were also folks in the foyer. When I saw them, I realized they had all been praying for me, and it was overwhelming.

As I was loaded into the ambulance, the Holy Spirit spoke to me. He said, “You didn’t think this was just for you, did you?” Wow! There were others that needed a wake up call that night. I was told two folks received Christ.

The doctors found that I had experienced a cardiac arrest, due to a blockage of an artery going to my heart. Doctors put in a stent, and then implanted a defibrillator. I made a full recovery and did not suffer any cognitive or physical effects from it.

Thanks to the quick action of my fellow Christians, my life was spared. If that day was my appointed time to join my Savior in Heaven, I believe the prayers of all those warriors changed God’s mind. I would have been ready though. At the age of 10, I realized that I was a sinner and received Christ early in life.

If this happened to you and you left this earth, do you know where you would spend eternity?

We have no choice in when we are born or when we die, but we can choose where we will spend eternity. Being good will not get us to Heaven, nor can we work our way there.

Titus 3:5 says: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.”

Since Adam sinned in the garden, we are all born with a sin nature. God will not allow any sin in Heaven, so how do we overcome that? Jesus did all of the work for us when He died on the cross. He shed His blood to pay our sin debt, taking all the sins of mankind upon Himself.

John 3:16 says: “For God so loved [your name], that He gave His only begotten Son, that [your name] believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Romans 10:9 says: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Then In 1 John 1:9 we read:  “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

You can pray right where you are and God will hear you.

In your own words, confess to Him that you are a sinner in need of salvation. Thank Him for sending Jesus to take the punishment that you deserve. Fully believe in Him, trusting Him to save your soul and to take you to Heaven when you die.

I hope that you talked with God and placed your trust in Jesus, just now, and that I will see you in Heaven someday. You are loved and Christ died for you!
