I Found Salvation On The Jailhouse Floor
My Story of Finding Hope in Jesus Christ
David Wolkow
MY STORY
I Wasn’t Looking for Jesus...
I didn’t grow up in church. I wasn’t raised reading the Bible, and I didn’t understand what it meant to have a relationship with God.
The first time I remember hearing the name Jesus was when I was about 12 or 13 years old, watching A Charlie Brown Christmas, when Linus read the Christmas story from the Bible. I had no idea that years later, that same name would become my only hope.
As I grew older, my choices led me into addiction. What I thought was freedom became a prison that controlled my life.
Then came 2003. I was arrested in Missouri and faced the possibility of 100 years in prison.
Broken and hopeless, sitting alone in a jail cell, I attempted to take my own life. But God wasn’t finished with me. I didn’t know much about the Bible. I didn’t know how to pray. I simply knew I needed help. So I cried out to Jesus.
And Jesus met me right there in that jail cell. He forgave me. He gave me hope. He gave me a second chance.
The same name I first heard as a young boy became the name that changed my life forever.
THE ROMANS ROAD TO SALVATION
GOD’S PLAN FOR YOU
Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned, and come short of
the glory of God.” We have all sinned.
None of us is good enough to save ourselves.
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Sin brings death, but God offers us the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:8
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God loved us while we were still sinners. Jesus took our place on the cross so we could be forgiven.
Romans 10:9
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Salvation is received by faith in Jesus Christ.
YOUR DECISION
JESUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
Whosoever. That means anyone. That means everyone. That means you. I wasn’t looking for Jesus. But Jesus was looking for me. Maybe that’s why you’re holding this tract today.
A MODEL PRAYER OF SALVATION
Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again. Please forgive me. Today I place my faith and trust in You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for loving me, forgiving me, and giving me a new beginning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
