God is merciful and longsuffering, but that doesn’t mean He will tolerate man’s wickedness forever. Genesis 6:5 says, “The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.” God levied judgment upon mankind: He destroyed the earth with a great flood, leaving only Noah and his family to repopulate the earth.
The Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah was great and their sin was very grievous (Genesis 19:24). These are only two accounts where God poured out His wrath in judgment upon mankind.
Most people like to think of God only in terms of His love, mercy, and longsuffering. Despite the history and testimony of the Word of God, many live in denial, thinking God will overlook their sins. Nahum 1:3 tells us, “The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.”
The Bible tells us that in the last days, just prior to the Lord’s return, there will be difficult times. There will be great deception (Matthew 24:4), gross immorality (2 Timothy 3:2-5), lawlessness will increase (Matthew 24:12), and some will depart from the faith being deceived by teachings of demons (1 Timothy 4:1).
God will pass judgment on this world again. This coming judgment will be far greater than any other previous judgment. Chapters 6-16 of Revelation tells us about the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowl judgments that will increase in severity over a seven-year period, causing most of the world’s population to perish.
Jesus also warned about this coming judgment: “For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again” (Matthew 24:21).
God graciously provided a way to escape this coming judgment through His Son. Before this great tribulation on earth, Jesus Christ will first come to enrapture all true believers to meet Him in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).
2 Peter 3:9 tells us:
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
Repent of your sins and receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior and escape this coming judgment. “And to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath” (1 Thessalonians 1:10).
