No, but really, I exchanged who and what I used to be for a new version, which is what I am now. The scripture says it better than I ever could:

Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Ok, so let's spend some time unpacking how this got to be for me so that it can be for you. 

Receiving Jesus in my life broke me—not simply temporarily relieved me, but broke addictions to alcohol of every magnitude, porn, smoking marijuana and cigars, spending needlessly - incurring debt beyond debt, eating foods that facilitate massive weight gains and health issues. Receiving Jesus delivered me of my sins which perpetuated multiple sicknesses and diseases, requiring me to use a breathing machine for over 10 years. As of 2025 I am no longer taking 12-15 pills daily for sickness and/or disease, and I no longer need my CPAP machine in order to sleep at night. I was taking many of these pills for over 10 years. I am glad, because it was like trying to sleep with a giant octopus on your face! I will provide some scriptural support as to how such things can happen once you give your life to Jesus Christ.

Even while I was a believer doing the things as best as I could and understood the Bible to instruct me to do, I was doing these things. What? Yes, God saved me before I cleaned up my life, before I could get free from the multiple addictions, before I learned how to manage my finances, before I stopped swearing. 

John 15:16 - You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

No religion can make this claim. Only my Jesus can, who came to claim the sick and lost. I was both and more. Look:

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

He changed me where programs and medicine could not. No amount of human advice or counsel could do what He did. I was in bondage and a prisoner of my own choices. 

John 8:32, 36 - And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free…. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Choices that I thought were smart, intelligent or that would not have any negative consequences. After all, if I didn’t believe in God, how would that work against me:

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is nothing that I can promise you in relation to this life that will make you a better person, except just one thing. No program, person, organization, or religious institution apart from Jesus Christ met the following condition. If they believe in this then perhaps they too can help:

John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Receive Jesus into your identity, into your very heart and spirit, with all your strength, soul, and mind, and allow Him to steal away your old destructive self and change you into a new person. Now this I can guarantee, in fact I stake my life on it, that if you do this, like I did, then there is nothing that will be impossible for you to change and overcome!

Phil 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Luke 1:37 - For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Your sinning offends God, let alone what it does to the rest of humanity and nature. You cannot stop the appetite to sin. Fulfilling sin is an appetite we are born with. But God in His great mercy gave us free will so that whenever we decide that we have had enough and become sick of the ravishing sarcasm and effects of sin, we would have a way out. And not just a way out, but away into an unbelievable option- and it is unbelievable because if you believed it earlier in your life you would have chosen its way- the only way that opposes the life of destruction, be it to and through yourself and/or to others. 

An option for rescue had always been available to me, but sin with its blinding power kept me, and keeps you, from seeing it. 

Matthew 13:11 - He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

My life is proof that God’s will is to rescue the worst of the worst in humanity:

1 Timothy 2:3-4 - For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Jesus Christ was born to ride the ride that only He could ride:

Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

You see God gave His only Son for any that might tire of this wretched life. If none but you would have chosen Him, then He would have done it for only you. He became your sin, that the curses that reside on your life because of those sins, would transfer on to Him. No doubt you have heard it said from someone who was this and that or wanted to be noticed by others that they would die for you - but if they did, it would never have given you eternal life, nor would it have been near as suffering and excruciating for them as it was for Jesus:

2 Corinthians 5:21 - For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

He took on your curse, the very curse that God said would come upon you if you sinned. He did this without sinning Himself:

Galatians 3:13 - Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)

He was bruised to absorb the penalty of your sin; canceling out your sin, sickness, and spiritual death. Yes, the payment you receive for your sin is eternal suffering, death but never dying, sickness and disease always present - except and but for the love of God the Father and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of everybody:

John 1:29 - The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

He did this personally for you so that you would be set free from the results of living a hopeless life! If eternity didn’t exist, the question of “why are we here” could never be answered, though many have tried to convince us that we are born, we die and disappear from earth. 

You have the same question that I did, in fact that every kid has, which is “where is God?” Oh, we all believed in Him when we were kids, but as we grew up and hung around all the wrong people, we became like them and threw Him out the windows of our mind.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Live as you are in your dilapidated, unchangeable condition with no hope of ever being delivered from the chains of disappointment and addictions, or choose to believe in the One who died for you while you were still hate’n on Him.
