Are you feeling lonely, depressed, or afraid? Are you frustrated because you seem to never be good enough even though you’ve done your best? You’ve trusted others and they rejected you, leaving you alone. You’ve felt betrayed.
Then there is the uncertainty of the future to find the person or job of our dreams, let alone good health to enjoy them. It’s been said that we live life either coming out of a storm, going into one, or in the middle of one. Broken relationships and unfulfilled dreams often cause us to give up hope, leading to despair. Now, like a ship floating into the waves of a dark, foggy sea without navigation, we wander through life wondering how to get back on course. How do we know what is best for us to win in our career and long-term relationships? How do we find Mr. or Mrs. Right?
God understands what you are going through. He deeply feels your pain and wants to do something about it, if you’ll let Him. Jesus once calmed a violent storm after waking up in a boat with His disciples. “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm” (Mark 4:39, NIV). There is Good News. Jesus (not religiosity) can step into your “boat” tossed by the waves of difficulty, confusion, and uncertainty and offer help. God can change your circumstances for the best—now and forever. He is still calming storms!
God is concerned about your life now and your eternal life later. Everyone is going to live somewhere forever. Do you know where you will be living? Eternity is a long time to be wrong. Isn’t it worth taking some time to investigate the evidence with the Good NEWS that Jesus Christ came to give? Jesus said “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news” (Mark 1:15, CSB). Change your mind from believing the lies of this world to the Truth of God’s kingdom.
What is the Truth that sets us free? What is the “Good NEWS?” It’s believing that “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, NIV). Here are the results of this new belief:
Not separated from God by your sin: “The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). “…for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins” (Isaiah 43:25).
Eternal life with God forever: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Wisdom of God made available: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). “And He will be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is his treasure” (Isaiah 33:6). “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all…” (James 1:5).
Sustained now by the power of the Holy Spirit: “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” (Romans 8:11). “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).
The darkness of depression, loneliness, anxiety, and fear will begin to fade as Christ appears in your life. His light removes the darkness. This is the answer—the Good News for now and forever. You can become a CHILD of God with all the privileges that go with it: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God” (John 1:12-13).
What does it mean to be a CHILD of God? What are the benefits?
Chosen by God— “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9, ESV). Praise Him! “Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6, NIV). He protects, provides for, and guides us each day. You can trust Him the more you get to know Him (Psalm 9:10). Nothing can happen without His permission. He cares and is all powerful to solve any problem. Trust Him. God loves you! We are Daddy’s little boy or girl. No worries. He’s got this!
His workmanship—made in the image of God; made by God and for God: “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27). “… Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16, NIV). To be holy means to be separated from worldliness. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10, NIV). Don’t let the culture determine your values and how you spend your resources and time. Seek God.
Infinitely loved by God—“The eternal God is your
refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deut 33:27, NIV). “The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness” (Jer 31:3). “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deut 31:8, NIV). Nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:39). That’s a Promise. God meets us where we are and then takes us further to where we need to go, into the likeness of Jesus (Romans 8:29)—the exact representation of God (Hebrews 1:3).
Liked by your heavenly Father--“For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation” (Psalm 149:4, ESV). He likes us so much he wants to be with us forever!! “He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing” (Zeph 3:17, ESV). ”…But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him” (Psalm 147:11, ESV). He wants to be with you! He made you and is for you! Others have failed you, but He never will. You can trust Him.
Don’t have to worry or be afraid--Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (ESV). God is available 24/7 to help us through any problem, giving us a peace that He is with us. Everything will be okay in the end. If things are not okay, it’s not the end! Trust and obey Him. Be patient. God is working behind the scenes to accomplish His purposes through you!
BTW: Did you know that even though all human beings are His creation, we are not all His children? The Bible says that we must receive what He did on the cross for us to become not just His creation but also His child. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13).
“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). God understands. You can trust Him. He loves you! Jesus said “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15, CSB).
It’s as easy as ABC:
Admit you are a sinner: repent (God is right and you are wrong. Change your mind from your selfish thinking).
Believe in your heart that Jesus is alive (He rose from the dead. He was seen by over 500 people after His resurrection)!
Confess with your mouth that He is Lord (He wants to be the ruler of all your life. This is what’s best for you).
You didn’t make you, so you don’t know what is best for you. He does. You can trust Him the more you get to know Him. “Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You” (Psalm 9:10, NIV). “A thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But I came to give life—life that is full and good” (John 10:10, ERV).
I’m praying for you!
Love in Him, Tom Tofilon
