God bless America, land that I love, Stand beside her and guide her, Through the night with the light from above. From the mountains to the prairies, To the oceans white with foam, God bless America, my home sweet home.

THE LAND OF FREEDOM

One of the great blessings we enjoy in the United States of America is freedom. We all have the freedom to live our own lives, choose our own paths, and use our abilities for our own gain as well as for the good of others. We have the freedom to choose our leaders and the freedom to worship God without fear of interference from the government.

FREEDOM’S COST

All of these freedoms are great blessings, but they were not won without a cost. Our nation’s founders took a stand for liberty and defended it, whatever the price. Since then, countless brave men and women have stood up to protect this great country, to secure its freedoms, and to promote the cause of liberty around the world. Many of them have paid the ultimate price, and we honor their sacrifice.

A GREATER FREEDOM

The Bible talks about another freedom which was secured by the power of God and is available to people of all nations. We all need to be set free because our hearts have been held captive to sin since the first man, Adam, disobeyed God. “By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12). Ultimate freedom is knowing that your sins have been forgiven and that the chains of sin have been broken in your life. How is this possible?

THE GREATEST SACRIFICE

Because God loves us, He sent His Son, Jesus, to earth as “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). On the cross Jesus, the sinless One, took our sins upon Himself and suffered the punishment we deserved. He paid the penalty for our sin and now He freely offers the gift of God—eternal life—to all who will come to Him (Romans 6:23). Each of us must make the choice to either remain in sin’s bondage or turn to God for salvation.

ARE YOU REALLY FREE?

Have you received the gift of life and liberty from the Savior? It can only be received by faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). When you confess to God that you are a sinner, and trust what Jesus has done for you, you are set free! All your sins are washed away in the precious blood of Christ (1 John 1:7), and His resurrection power starts to work in you. As you grow in the new life given to you by Jesus, you will experience true freedom like you’ve never known. What a wonderful blessing it is to be free!

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).
