My friend told me that going to Heaven is like going to New York: there are many ways to get there, and it doesn’t really matter which road you take. In their thinking, as long as you sincerely follow the way you think is right, it will get you there.
My friend was right about making it to New York, but completely wrong about going to Heaven. The map to Heaven, the Bible, declares there is only one way.
If you believe there are many ways to Heaven, or that as long as you have Jesus in the passenger seat you can choose any way you wish, please stop and carefully consider this message. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).
Many people believe they can earn Heaven by being a “good person,” or earn favor with God by doing good works. But this way of thinking is actually deadly. It leads the WRONG WAY—away from the path God has made—to a terrible end in “the blackness of darkness for ever” (Jude 13).
God says we cannot make it to Heaven on our own. “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
What is the only way to Heaven? The word of God makes it clear that Jesus Christ, and Christ alone, is the one and only way for ruined, helpless sinners like you and me to enter Heaven.
To remove our sin and its deadly penalty, the Lord Jesus “put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself” when He “suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (Hebrews 9:26; 1 Peter 3:18). His death on the cross and resurrection from the grave paved the way for guilty people like you and me to draw near to God. Through Jesus, and only Him, we can be forgiven and on the way to Heaven.
The directions to Heaven are simple: repent and believe. To repent means to admit that you’ve been going the wrong way and to turn to God’s way. Acknowledge that you are a lost sinner in need of the risen Savior. To believe means to put your complete trust in Jesus Christ, the Lord of all. The Bible says that if you do these things, you will be saved!
“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).
The Way to Heaven
- Stop and consider—which way are you traveling?
- Are you going the wrong way that leads to death, or are you on God’s way to eternal life?
- Remember, God only made one way to Heaven, and it’s through faith in Jesus Christ.
- Turn to Him today and enjoy Heaven forever!
“The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
“By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
“There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth” (Luke 15:10).
