Our hearts reach out to you with sympathy for your recent loss. We know how difficult this time can be, and want to assure you that you are not alone. God has allowed a loved one to be taken from you, but God has not left you. The Bible reminds us that God is the “God of all comfort” who sustains us through these difficult times so we can bring His comfort to others who are hurting (2 Corinthians 1:2-4).

God Knows Your Pain

Because God created us, He knows intimately the depth of sorrow which the human heart can feel. Jesus, the Son of God, experienced this sorrow for Himself when His dear friend Lazarus died. The Bible records His heart-felt reaction in the Bible’s shortest verse: “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). God knows your pain.

Now try to picture Jesus, a perfectly innocent young Man, suffering and dying on the shameful cross. Because of that dreadful day, we can be assured that God knows—really knows—the sorrow of seeing a loved one suffer, the tragedy of an “untimely” passing, and the painful separation brought about by death.

God Loves You

During a time of loss, some people begin to wonder if God really cares. Oh, dear reader, let us assure you that God not only cares about you; He loves you tremendously! Consider the reason why God allowed His precious Son to go to Calvary’s cross: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

The Bible teaches that sin is the underlying cause of death. Beginning with Adam, the very first man, we have all sinned; we have all gone against God’s holy standard and fallen short of His glory (Romans 3:23; 5:12). The result of sin is death (Romans 6:23). This is where God stepped in and demonstrated His boundless love by sending Jesus Christ, who willingly laid down His life to gain the ultimate victory over sin and death (Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:57).

God Wants You to Turn to Him

It is our prayer that God will use this time to draw you closer to Him. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, we encourage you to look to Him for strength and comfort. Seek out fellowship with other believers who can show you God’s love.

If you have not trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, we plead with you today to look in faith to the One who died for you and rose again. Turn to Him, repent of your sins, and place your faith in Jesus Christ. Then, when your time comes to leave this world, you will go to be with God forever in Heaven where sickness, sorrow, and death shall never enter.

We send you these words in love, hoping they will bring comfort to your soul as you come to the full assurance of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Take Him as your Saviour today.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).
