OUR PROBLEM

Adam, who is the progenitor of the human race, was created by God as an innocent being. But Adam fell into sin, becoming an entirely different being—depraved and degenerate. Because of his fall, he immediately died spiritually, and eventually he would also die physically.

After his fall, Adam was only capable of producing children like himself with the same depraved and degenerate nature. As his descendants, it’s our nature to sin and rebel against God.

It is very important that we understand our true condition, that because of our fallen nature we’re spiritually dead and separated from God. Even before we sin (which we all do), we’re already under the condemnation of God. As a result, everyone without exception needs to be saved. There is nothing we can do to fix this problem; we can’t change our nature.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. Romans 5:12

Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. Romans 5:18

THE SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEM

Most people in the world have heard of Jesus Christ. They’ve heard His teachings or know something about His death on the cross. But I think many people don’t truly understand who He is, or why He was crucified.

There is only one true God. For all eternity, there never was nor will there ever be another God. This one true God exists in three Divine persons—God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit—the trinity. They are coequal in their deity and their eternality.

It was God the Son, the second person of the trinity, who left His glory in heaven to become one of us. He was born into this world, not by the seed of man, but through a virgin conception, conceived by the Holy Spirit. Through the virgin birth, God circumvented the sin nature. God allowed Himself to come into this world as the sinless God-Man. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man.

Jesus Christ came to provide a perfect and acceptable sacrifice for the sins of the whole world by laying down His life and enduring the Father’s wrath on Calvary’s cross. He was then resurrected from the dead on the third day for our justification. Through His sacrificial death, Jesus satisfied all of the righteous requirements of the Law for the penalty of our sins, making it possible for our sins to be forgiven. The Lord is giving every man, woman, and child an opportunity to be saved—to have their sins forgiven and receive a new nature from God.

He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Hebrews 9:26

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:15

ACCEPTING GOD’S GRACIOUS GIFT

Now that we know about our true condition and who Jesus is, and how God graciously provided a way for us to be saved, it’s up to us to believe and respond to this truth of our own free will. It is vital to respond to God’s gracious offer now while we’re still living, because after death it will be too late. The fact that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the whole world doesn’t automatically save us—it’s not universal salvation.

We must, by a deliberate act of our will, receive the Lord by faith. When we understand that what the Bible says about our sinful nature is true—that we’re spiritually dead—our unworthiness should cause us to approach the Lord in humility and brokenness, with a Godly sorrow because of our sin. When we see His goodness and longsuffering, it should lead us to repentance—turning away from sin, and sincerely surrendering to His Lordship. We must abandon all efforts to save ourselves, and trust in Christ alone. This is what it means to truly believe and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

When someone truly believes and trusts in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, God can legally and righteously forgive him, because his sins have been paid for in full by Christ. God then imputes the perfect holiness and righteousness of Christ to him, elevating him to a position of holiness.

Once he’s enveloped in the righteousness of Christ, he is now able to fellowship with God, he is now fit to be part of the kingdom of God, and he is adopted into the family of God. It is an expression of God’s love for us and He offers freely as a gift to anyone willing to receive Him.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. John 1:12

So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
