There is coming a day, when this life is over, that we will either receive what we have earned or what God has given to us.
When someone works a job, there is a certain day (pay day) that they receive payment for the work that they have done. That’s the definition of wages, what we receive for what we have done.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ROMANS 6:23
That word “death” describes spiritual death or separation from God which ultimately leads to a place of torment called hell. Because of our sins, we deserve the payment or wages of hell. And we ALL have sinned.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. ROMANS 3:23
Sin is a direct act against God. Anytime we do what is wrong, it is sin. But the good news is that God loved you and I so much that He sent Jesus Christ to earth to receive our wages, so in turn, we could receive His gift of eternal life.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. I CORINTHIANS 15:3-4
Jesus came to this earth a little over 2,000 years ago and received the wages for our sins when He died on the cross. But He also rose from the grave three days later. And He offers the free gift of eternal life in heaven to anyone who will trust in Him.
A gift is something that is not earned.
God gives this gift of eternal life out of His love for us. But a gift does no one any good unless they receive it.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. JOHN 1:12
So, will you receive the gift of eternal life by trusting in God’s payment for your sins or will you reject Jesus and receive what you have earned in hell? The choice is yours.
