Question #1: Why go to church?

We admit it. There are a lot of fun things to do instead of going to church. There’s camping, TV, social media, shopping, restaurants, video games, and a lot more!

However, the reason Christians go to church is found in these four simple words: Jesus gives greater joy.

Consider Jesus according to the Bible…

• Jesus created us. (John 1:1-3)

• Jesus alone can rescue us. (Acts 16:31)

Jesus loved us. (John 3:16)

• Jesus freely offers to forgive sins. (Acts 10:43)

Jesus invites us to a new life. (Luke 9:23)

Jesus shows us God. (Hebrews 1:3)

Jesus gives His people joy! (1 Peter 4:13)

Although this world has a lot of fun stuff, it never completely satisfies us. But Jesus is different. The joy Jesus gives His people never gets old—it always satisfies!

Question #2: How does Jesus give His people such amazing joy?

The way that Jesus gives His people such joy is by connecting us with God (now and forever!).

You see, we all face a huge problem. Crimes demand penalties. And since we’ve all sinned by breaking God’s laws, we must pay a penalty. God says that our penalty is separation from Him during this life on earth and after this life in hell. The Bible says it this way: “Your iniquities have separated between you and your God” (Isaiah 59:2). Jesus warned that the wicked would go to an “everlasting fire” (Matthew 25:41, see also Revelation 20:11-15).

But Jesus, God’s eternal Son, never sinned. After living a perfect life, He did something no one else could do. He died for sinners to pay their penalty. The Bible says He “gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world” (Galatians 1:4). He died that we might freely have “everlasting life” (John 3:16). Jesus proved He could do this by rising from the dead. The Bible promises you: “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Being saved and connected with God gives us amazing joy!

Question #3: Will you experience the joy that Jesus offers?

Experience greater joy by being saved from sin’s power and punishment. Only Jesus can connect you to God. What Jesus offers you can’t be earned by doing lots of good works, rituals, baptisms, etc. In fact, the Bible says plainly how we receive Jesus’ gift. It says: “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

People in heaven today are rejoicing, not because they did enough good works to get there, but because they had faith in Jesus who saved them. They happily sing to Jesus, “[You have] redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9).

We urge you to turn to Christ today. Trust in Him. He will give you a joy worth celebrating!
