Oh, if the Wright brothers could see a Boeing 747, what would they think?
It was their idea to begin with, back in 1903, to build a flying machine! We’ve all seen pictures of the small contraption they put together to fly off a hill in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina!
Some interesting facts about the 747:
- It stands 67 feet tall, and weighs 455 tons, fully loaded. But it manages to get off the ground!
- The shape of the wings provides ‘lift’ as air rushes over and creates a vacuum.
- Planes can fly at 7 1/2 miles above the earth!
The Wright brothers would be astonished, wouldn’t they?
The human body has some very interesting statistics, too.
- We can only live about 3 days without water.
- We have 2,000 to 10,000 taste buds that detect sweet, savory, bitter, sour and salty flavors.
- We have 213 bones in our bodies. Babies are born with 270 bones, some of which fuse together as the baby grows.
- The most astonishing thing about us is that we have 60,000 miles of blood vessels in our bodies!
If I told you that the Boeing 747 could make itself, you would lift an eyebrow and write me off as very uninformed! The engineers that build aircraft have thousands of drawings and designs before one of them rolls off the assembly line!
What, then, would you think if I told you that elephants, dogs, robins and sparrows, and yes—even people —somehow manufactured themselves over time to become such intricately-developed creatures?
If an airplane cannot put itself together, neither can a carefully-designed person.
The Bible tells us that the One Who engineered our complex bodies is God Himself!
You can read it for yourself in the first book of the Bible. Genesis, Chapter 1, verse 24, says: “Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind’; and it was so.” Verse 27 says: “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.”
And since God made us, He had reasons for it!
He wanted people to have a life on earth to enjoy, to work and to prosper—and to be grateful to HIM for providing all we need each minute of the day! He even provided a way for us to spend eternity with Him when our life on this earth ends in physical death. John, chapter 3, verse 16 says: “For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live here for 33 years, teaching about His Father, then to die a horrible death to pay for every sin of every person for all time—to give us all access to a heavenly home with Him, forever and ever!
We were all fashioned by the very hand of God Himself. We need to put our trust in Him and follow His directions, written for us in His Word, the Holy Bible! It works for our lives!
