One Nation Under God
What did our founding fathers base the laws of this country on?
“As to Jesus of Nazareth, my opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the system of morals and His religion as He left them to us, the best the world ever saw or is likely to see.”
—Benjamin Franklin, signer of The Declaration Of Independence
“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.”
—George Washington, 1st President
“I do invite the people, upon that day to cease from their labors, to meet in their accustomed houses of worship and to join in rendering gratitude and praise to our beneficent Creator for the rich blessings He has granted to us as a nation, and in invoking the continuance of His protection and grace for the future.”
—Benjamin Harrison, 23rd President
“I verily believe Christianity necessary to the support of civil society. One of the beautiful boasts of our municipal jurisprudence is that Christianity is a part of the Common Law … There never has been a period in which the Common Law did not recognize Christianity as lying its foundations.”
—Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, Harvard Speech, 1829
“In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government, ought to be instructed… No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people…”
—Noah Webster

God’s Answer For America
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
What do we Need to do Personally to be Forgiven and Saved?
1. We are saved by faith and not works.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
2. Believe that Jesus died for your sins
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
3. Believe that Jesus died rose from the dead
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
What do we Need to do as a Nation?
1. Obey God’s commandments
Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15
2. Pray, read the Bible and attend a Bible-believing church.
You are welcome to visit the church of the person who handed you this message.
Take the First Step
If you are ready to turn from your way to God’s way and put your trust in Jesus Christ to receive forgiveness of sins, do it now! You can talk to God, expressing your heart to Him. It might sound like this:
Dear Jesus: I believe you died on the cross for my sin and then rose again. Forgive me for everything I have done wrong. Come live inside of me. I choose to make you Lord and Savior of my life. In Jesus name. Amen
