Man’s Problem
God is holy, pure, and just and must punish sin.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth” (Romans 1:18).
We are all sinners!
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
What we have earned for our sin and rebellion against God is death!
“For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
When the Bible speaks of death, it refers not only to physical death but also God’s just judgment and wrath against the sinner.
“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
Worse yet, we can never do enough good works to outweigh the bad. We can never reach God’s perfect standard and earn His acceptance.
“We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment” (Isaiah 64:6).
God's Solution
What we could not do, God did for us. God the Father sent God the Son (Jesus Christ), who is fully God and fully man, to perfectly fulfill the law…
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons” (Galatians 4:4-5).
…and die on the cross, fully paying the penalty of sin on behalf of all those who would ever believe in Him!
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
This is The Gospel! We are saved, forgiven, and assured of eternal life when we trust in Jesus Christ and what He alone has done for our salvation.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16).
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
While eternal life is the gift of God and our good works play no part whatsoever in our right standing before God, good works come as a result of our salvation. When God saves us by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, God the Holy Spirit indwells us, giving us a new heart with new affections. He enables us to turn away from sin more and more as we grow in our relationship with Him.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
Put your faith in Jesus Christ alone today! Faith in Jesus Christ is a saving grace, by which we receive and rest upon Him and His finished work alone for salvation.
