This short pamphlet was written for anyone who is seeking to know God. He understands your situation and knows what it will take to draw you closer to Him. One thing I know for sure is that if you are reading this message, He found a path to get it in your hands. Read carefully as you place yourself in the next five chapters. For in so doing, you will learn how God would have you to come and know Him personally. I pray your path to know Him becomes intentional and sincere. In case you don’t know it, you are the most precious desire of God’s heart; He longs to have a relationship with you. We cannot have real peace, joy, or love in our lives or in this world without the Lord.

Chapter 1 - Explaining the Gift of Salvation

Jesus is the Son of God who gave up His life for the sins of all people on earth. He willingly submitted to death on the cross. But do you know why He did it? He died so we can have fellowship with God the Father.

Jesus sacrificed His life to bring everyone into right standing with God. We are unable to enter heaven with sin or be in fellowship with God if there is consistent, unrepentant sin in our lives. He desires that we choose to repent of our sins and accept His grace. Repentance means to turn away from your sins and follow God’s plan for our lives. If we believe by faith and accept Jesus’ gift of forgiveness by confessing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our life, we can find new life. Jesus made it clear in John 14:6 that He is the Way, the Truth, and Life. No one can come to God the Father without accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. When He died and rose again He demonstrated His power over sin and death.

When we put our trust in Jesus Christ, we are no longer under the curse of sin or spiritual death. Yes, our body will one day die, but our spirit will be joined with God in Heaven. We can enjoy fellowship with God because of the love of Jesus who gave His life for us. This truth needs to be accepted in faith. Read Hebrews 11:1-3, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him.” Likewise, James 4:8 displays our need to understand and draw closer to God and prioritize our time with Him. When we draw close to God, He draws closer to us.

Chapter 2 - Mary and Martha

I want to share a message using the story of the sisters Mary and Martha, as told in Luke 10:38-42. While Jesus visited them in their home, Martha was busy doing dishes and cooking in the kitchen. Mary chose to listen to Jesus and spend time in His presence. However, Martha didn’t understand Mary’s willingness to spend quality time with the Savior. She likely had an attitude in the kitchen; she may have even been clanking pots and pans to distract Mary and get her to help. She later approached Jesus and asked, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?” (10:40). Then she proceeded to plead, “Tell her to help me” (10:40). But Jesus said, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things … Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42). This story tells us where our priorities need to be. This is a good time to self-reflect and ask yourself where your priorities are.

Chapter 3 - Spiritual Distractions

In Psalm 91:15, God promises to be with us and deliver us from trouble when we call upon Him. He never promised that we would never experience trials, sickness, hunger, loss, or grief. Rather, in this life we are sure to experience problems because we don’t live in a perfect world. Yet, God promises in Psalm 34:19 to deliver us out of them all in His time— not ours.

In the book of James, chapter 1, verse 3, we read that the trying of our faith produces patience. Sometimes we must rely on faith and wait for an answer to a prayer. While waiting, we have an advocate in the Holy Spirit and in His son Jesus Christ, who prays and intercedes with God the Father on our behalf when we find ourselves in problems beyond our ability to handle. Remember, nothing is too hard for God. As a believer we have the right to come boldly to the throne of grace for help in times of trouble. Do you ever wonder why some people receive an answer to prayer and others don’t? One reason is because we fail to ask in faith, believing He will answer our prayers. We ask with a doubtful mind. After a brief period of waiting, we then assume that God didn’t hear or refuses to answer our prayers. Some answers to prayers are quicker than others. It’s all in God’s timing when this happens. It could be that He prolongs the answers so we can reflect and learn something from the experience. Satan’s strategy is to deceive us into believing that God has favorite people He delivers from problems and others He ignores. If we aren’t careful, we will find ourselves believing this lie.

Here is an example of how Satan attempts to trick and deceive us: envision a distracted fly being caught unaware in a spider’s web. The spider has his eyes on the unsuspecting fly as he struggles to get free. This is the same way Satan watches and waits for us to mess up and make a wrong decision, so he can hit us while we are feeling down. In the book of 1 Peter, we read that Satan’s plan is to steal, kill, and destroy—keeping us from moving closer to God (5:8). Read also John 10:10. This verse indicates Satan’s intention for all mankind. Satan finds ways to distract us from trusting in God. For example, when you are praying or reading your Bible, do you suddenly feel the urge to look up something on Google or scroll through your cell phone? Do you grow sleepy or have a sudden need to call someone? These are spiritual distractions.

Chapter 4 - You are His Most Precious Desire

Since Jesus paid the price for us to have access to God, God desires to fellowship with us. You can find peace in His presence that you won’t find anywhere else. Stress will melt away, anger will be appeased, fear will subside, and understanding will rise up in your mind. All this and more comes from being in God’s presence and being sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Quiet yourself and listen to Him as He guides your heart and mind into the plans He has for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 reads, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” In Psalms 139:13-14, we read that God knew us from our mother’s womb. He is omnipresent, which means that He is present everywhere at the same time.

As you grow in your relationship with God, He desires for you to share the good news of His gift of salvation with other people and be a witness of His love. However, you must prioritize spending quality time in relationship with Him so you will know how to share His words and love with others.

In Matthew 7:21, we learn that in the last days many people will say, “‘Lord, have we not prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name? And prayed for the sick in your name? As well as done many wondrous works?’ Yet, tragically, God will say, ‘But I never knew you.’” The key words in this verse are “I never knew you”; these four words let us know that God’s main desire is for us to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and spend quality time with Him. These times of fellowship should consist of greeting the Lord, with praise and worship and with thanksgiving and making supplications for others and ourselves.

God desires our relationship with Him to be a “sacred” and “treasured” time of fellowship, singing songs from our heart, sharing the highlights of our day, and thanksgiving with Him. He also desires quiet and patient listening to His voice in our spirit as He shares His thoughts. That means we should become so focused in our times of fellowship with God to block out every outside distraction. God’s love for us transcends way beyond us doing good works.

Chapter 5 - Steps to growing closer to God

Now that you have read each of these chapters, you may be wondering what’s next and how you may be saved. As I mentioned before, sin separates us from God.

Romans 3:23 teaches us that every person has sinned and has come short of the glory of God. You need to repent of your sins. To repent means to make a sincere decision to turn away from living a sinful life, and then asking for God’s forgiveness for your sins. You need to ask Jesus Christ to come in your life to begin a new journey with Him. This is when you receive the gift of Salvation. God will help you conquer the sin in your life.

Romans 10:9-11 reads: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.’”

The Bible teaches that all who turn to God in repentance, personally trusting the Lord Jesus as Savior are: eternally saved; forgiven of all their sins; indwelt by the Holy Spirit; baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ, which is the Church; children of God; a new creation in Christ with a new nature; holy priests to offer up spiritual sacrifices to God; and royal priests to minister to man. For whosoever calls upon the Lord shall be saved.

Consider praying something like this to Him today:

“Dear God, I confess I’m a sinner, I ask for your forgiveness for my sins. I believe Jesus Christ is Your son. I believe that He died for my sins and that You raised Him to back to life after three days. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and desire to follow Him from this day forward. Amen”

Congratulations! If you have turned to God, called out to Him from your heart, and put your trust in Jesus Christ, you are now a born-again Christian. YOU are the Father God’s most precious desire!
