On December 29, 2010 my miniature horse Annie unexpectedly delivered a beautiful little filly. After she was discovered by a visiting friend, we tended to them both and named the baby Jewel.

Unfortunately, Annie was not prepared for Jewel and had no milk to offer her. Without the mare’s first milk Jewel would not receive the antibodies she needed to survive and would perish within a few days.

With the help of family and friends, we were able to locate the serum needed to save Jewel. We desperately wanted to save her, but in order for the serum to work, she would have to drink it on her own.

That evening Jewel did accept the serum, and it began to work. Her health began to progress; her temperature rose to where it should be, her respiration was now normal, and she began to gain strength.

After finishing the serum, Jewel drank formula for a few days, but needed more nutrition. A kind lady who raises goats offered some milk, which Jewel craved and drank often. She is now growing stronger every day.

We never know what a day may bring—sometimes good, sometimes tragic. I pray today will be good for you, but if you were to die today, do you know for sure that you would go to Heaven?

While most of us might consider ourselves to be a good person, the Bible tells us that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). It also tells us that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

God loves us, and sent His Son Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins and provide the only way of forgiveness. “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). God has made the way, but we must accept it.

God will save everyone who turns to Him. He is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). “Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).

When you accept these facts and place your faith in Jesus as your personal Savior, you can know for sure that you will spend eternity in Heaven with Him. “For by grace are ye saved through faith” (Ephesians 2:8).

Many times we are hungering for something we can’t seem to find. This world offers temporary pleasures which end in disappointment. Only Jesus can satisfy the longing of your soul, and He will never let you down.

Will you turn to God today, admitting your sins and trusting Jesus alone for your salvation? We cannot earn a place in Heaven; faith in Jesus is the only way.

God wants us to experience His peace and joy, and wants us to grow in our knowledge of Him. “Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

“For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
