Has anybody ever told you about a delicious food that they had recently tasted? Maybe it was a well-seasoned steak, or a mouth-watering ice cream dessert, or even a simple but luscious piece of fruit. No matter how well they described the food or the taste, you would never know how good it really was unless you tasted for yourself.

The same is true of the goodness of God. You may have had a number of influences in your life that tried to convince you of the wonderful and amazing love of God, but if you have never tasted for yourself then you have never experienced how truly special God’s love is.

The Bible says “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him” (Psalm 34:8). In order to taste and see for yourself that the Lord is good, you have to place your trust in him.

Unfortunately so many people have heard about the amazing love of God but have never tasted for themselves by putting their faith and trust in him. Maybe they were entirely unconvinced and chose to reject the love of God. Or perhaps they decided to try and experience the love of God by putting their trust in something else such as religion, or their church, or their own good works.

What about you? Have you ever tasted and seen for yourself that the Lord is good? Have you ever put your faith and trust in him and him alone for the salvation of your soul?

The Bible says that the reason that we need to put our faith and trust in the Lord is “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Before we can ever taste of the goodness of the Lord we must receive forgiveness from him for all of the sins that we have willingly committed. If we do not receive forgiveness the Bible says “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23) and “the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).

The good news is that we can have forgiveness because the Bible says “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Even though the wages of sin is death the Bible goes on to say “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

You see, the important thing to understand is that the amazing love of God is a gift. There is nothing that we can do to earn it. The Bible says “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9). In order to have forgiveness of sins and to taste and see that the Lord is good you must simply put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible says “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9) and goes on to say “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). Will you see for yourself that the Lord is good by calling upon the name of the Lord and putting your faith and trust in him? Don’t take everybody else’s word for it, taste and see for yourself!
