There are many quotes from famous people all over the world that try to describe the journey of Life.
For example:
- “Life is full of ups and downs”
- “Life is full of surprises”
- “Life is a journey”
- “Life is a roller-coaster”
- “Life is a highway”
- “Life is either a great adventure or nothing”
- “Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful”
All these sayings can be summed up in one sentence:
- “The only constant thing in life is change.”
As Christians, we look up to God for help as we navigate the journey of life. The Bible is full of imagery or attribution of human characteristics to God. For example, Psalm 17:8 talks about the apple of God’s eye. It says:
“Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.”
Psalm 29:3-4 talks about the voice of the Lord. It says:
“The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
The God of glory thunders;
The Lord is over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”
Psalm 89:13 talks about the arm of God, hand of God and His right hand. It says:
“You have a mighty arm;
Strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand.”
In Isaiah 40:12, the Bible talks about the “Hollow of God’s hands.” It says:
“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand,
Measured heaven with a span
And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure?
Weighed the mountains in scales
And the hills in a balance?”
For Christians, one of the best places to stay in life is in the hollow of God’s hands. The hollow of God’s hands is the most protected part of His hand. A hollow is formed with one’s palm curved like a cup.
God’s hand symbolizes His power, strength, compassion, tenderness and His love. It is a safe and secret place where one is constantly in the presence of God. You are constantly remembered by the God of the universe because your presence reminds Him that you need His help and attention. It also shows that you have come to God for protection from the vicissitudes of life. The storms of life cannot blow you away when you are in the hollow of His hands. Afflictions, oppressions, strife, turmoil, and tempests are all under God’s control and attention. Remember how Jesus calmed the storm in the Bible. He is an expert in calming storms. In Mark 4:35-41, the Bible says:
“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’
39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, ‘Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?’ 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, ‘Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!’”
A song written by Edmund Lorenz (1854-1942) titled “In the Hollow of His Hands” captures the essence of being kept by God.
It says:
1. I am safe, whatever may betide me;
I am safe who ever may deride me;
I am safe, as long as I confide me
In the hollow of God’s hand.
Refrain:
In the blessed hollow of his hand!
In the blessed hollow of his hand!
I am safe while God himself doth hold me
In the blessed hollow of his hand!
2. What tho’ fierce the stormy blasts roar round me;
What tho’ sore life’s trials oft confound me;
I am safe, for naught of ill can wound me
In the hollow of God’s hand. [Refrain]
3. Everlasting arms of love enfold me;
Words of peace the voice divine has told me;
I am safe, while God himself doth hold me
In the hollow of his hand. [Refrain]
The best place for a Believer in Christ is to be held in the Hollow of God’s hand. However, this promise is only for those who have confessed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Jesus is calling today. He is saying to you:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
If you want to accept this invitation, pray to God. You can say something like this:
Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I confess my sins before You today. Thank You for dying for me on the cross for my sins. I want to know You personally. I open the door of my life to You and ask that You come in and be my personal Lord and Savior. Take control of my life. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be. In Jesus name I have prayed. Amen.
If you have sincerely put your trust in Jesus to be your Savior, welcome to the household of God!
