Just after I became a Christian, I had a man come up to me at work and he said, “You don’t remember me, do you?” I said, “No, I’m sorry I don’t.” The man said, “I worked with you years ago. When you spoke, you cursed and swore so much, that I asked you to stop, but instead you did it all the more. Recently, I heard you had become a Christian, and I wanted to see for myself if it was true.”

I apologized to him for what I said years ago. I started thinking about what I used to be like and realized I never gave much thought about God or Jesus Christ.

What changed me and altered my life forever?

Someone told me The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and as a result, I made a decision to become a Christian and God changed my heart and my life.

Since that time, I wanted to know everything I could about this man Jesus Christ. In my search, this is what I found, and if you would allow me, I would like to quickly share it with you:

First: there are accurate secular, historical facts that Jesus Christ is a real person who walked on earth just over 2000 years ago.

Second: I discovered (from the Bible) that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Luke 1:35). Note: Before I dismissed the Bible as an authority, I checked on how it came into being and is still here today. For further proof regarding the Bible, please visit the following site: www.bringyourbible.org/5-evidences-the-bible-is-true. I also discovered the Bible is God’s letter to mankind.

Third: I found out that God sent His only Son to earth to be born and to live a perfect life for 33 years. Then as predicted, He freely laid down His life and died on the Cross. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

The next big question—Why did Jesus come?

The Bible says that in the beginning, God created man and woman and put them in the Garden of Eden to have fellowship with Him. The only restriction He gave them was to not eat from a certain tree, or they would surely die (Genesis 2:17).

However, both Adam and Eve chose in their free will to disobey God and to eat the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:6). By doing this, they immediately died spiritually and the process of physical dying began (Genesis 3:19). Their act of disobedience is called sin and it separated Adam and Eve from God (Romans 5:19).

Since that time, sin has been in our fallen nature and it has been passed on to everyone (Romans 5:12). This is the bad news. But the good news is God loves mankind, and wants to be in a relationship with us. God set in place a plan to reclaim humanity from the grip of sin and death (Romans 6:23).

This is the answer to my question of why Jesus came! God created a bridge between us and Himself. It is, in fact, a bridge between heaven and hell and this bridge is through the Cross of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ became the sacrifice for you and me. Because of His sacrifice for our sin, man’s relationship with God can be restored.

According to the Bible, there is no other way that you can be right with God (John 14:6).

I also discovered being a good moral person or doing good deeds is not enough (Ephesians 2:8-9). It was Jesus alone that paid our penalty for sin and died a terrible death.

Without Jesus and His forgiveness, we will die and pay for our own sin. Now you know why Jesus came. However, it’s not enough just to know it. It’s not even enough to say we believe it (Acts 17:30). We have to do something with this knowledge to access this bridge to life.

First, the Bible says we must realize we have sinned (Romans 3:23).

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Second, we must call upon Jesus to save us (Romans 10:9-13).

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved … For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”

How do we do this?

You simply pray, (speak to God), and confess from your heart what I have been talking about. You can say something like: “God I admit that I am a sinner. I repent (turn away) from my sins. I am sorry and surrender my life to you and put my total trust in Jesus to save me. Amen.”

It is not so much the words you prayed but the attitude of your heart. If you truly meant what you prayed, then the Bible tells us we have passed from death to a new life in Jesus Christ. This new life is a free gift (John 5:24) and it begins for you now and continues for you into eternity.

Some people think when you’re dead it’s all over. One thing is for sure—when you die, it is not over. The Bible says your Spirit will live forever, but where will you spend it?

Other people think they haven’t done anything seriously wrong, so they’ll go to Heaven. However, Heaven is only open to those who have been prepared for God’s presence by receiving what Jesus has done. On the other hand, Hell is prepared for all who refuse what Jesus did on the cross, and trust instead in the “good things” they have done.

If the Bible is true (and I believe it is), this is a sobering fact and one worth checking out.

Life is short and our time on earth is just a blink of an eye compared to eternity.

As I close, think about what you just read. There is a God who loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die on the Cross for you. He yearns for you to come to Him through His Son Jesus. If you accept His Son as your personal Lord and Saviour, you will never be alone again. God will never leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5b). Finally, when it is your turn to leave this world, you will know without a shadow of a doubt that you will be going to Heaven to live for all eternity and to be with the God that loves you and died for you. It just can’t get better than that.

If you decide not to accept the Lord Jesus as your God and Saviour, I will respect your decision—but if you do accept Him or if you have any questions, please let me know.
