Do You Know for Sure?
If someone asks you, “Do you know for sure that if you were to die today you would go to Heaven?” and you were taught, as I was, that you can’t know for sure, then my question is:
“What is your hope based on?”
The Finished Work of Christ
In John 19:30, Jesus said from the cross,
“...IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
Salvation is not something we earn — it’s a gift.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)
Why We Need Saving
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
“For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.”(Ecclesiastes 7:20)
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…” (Titus 3:5)
We have no righteousness of our own — even our best efforts are like “filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).
How to Be Saved
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9–10)
When a person is born again, they receive the Holy Spirit:
“...Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8:9)
God Wants You to Know
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” (1 John 5:13)
I used to hope my religion would be enough.
Now I know that Jesus is enough.
Will You Trust Him Today?
Pray and believe:
“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner.
I believe You died and rose again for me.
I trust You alone as my Saviour.
Please forgive me and give me eternal life.
Amen.”
This prayer (words) won’t save you — but a repentant heart will.
