Recalculating!

Has your GPS ever said that to you? Recalculating is what it takes to get to Heaven from YOUR CITY NAME HERE.

Here’s why …

We need to recalculate because according to the Bible, we are all spiritually lost on the road of life, going our own way instead of God’s way.

  • “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him [Jesus] the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6).
  • “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

In fact, we don’t want to give God control of our lives because we are His enemies (Romans 8:6-8).

We need to recalculate because while we are sinful, God is perfectly holy and good

We deserve the eternal punishment that our sins merit, the same way that a murderer deserves the death sentence in a court of law. Our way ends in death.

  • “The soul who sins shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20).
  • “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Because of Jesus, God can save us from the punishment we deserve.

Jesus is perfectly holy. He came to this earth and lived a perfect life. He died on the cross for our sins, the just for the unjust, and he rose again so that we could be forgiven.

  • “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18).
  • “For our sake He [God] made Him [Jesus] to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

So to get to Heaven, we must recalculate.

Even though everyone does some good in life, we have all violated the holy law of God. Jesus died on the cross to save us, but until we make a choice to repent and change direction in life (recalculate), we cannot come to know God or live in His Heaven.

  • “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved … For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:9-13).

The word confess means both to admit that we have sinned and agree with God that we are lost and deserve an eternal punishment in hell for our sin. It also means that we agree with God that Jesus Christ is the only one who can save us.

  • He Himself said in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

No one else can save us, and we can’t earn eternal life by our good works.

The word believe means that we understand and accept God’s terms for salvation. We cannot do anything to earn or merit our own salvation.

  • “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Believe means that we must place our trust in Christ and in Him alone.

The word call means that we must exercise faith. Salvation is a work of God, but we must do more than simply accept the message intellectually. We must ask Him to save us and confess Him as Lord.

So, how can you get to Heaven from YOUR CITY NAME?

How can you know that you have eternal life?

  • “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12).

Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord? Do you know that God has forgiven your sins because you exercised faith in Him and that you have a home in Heaven? If not, why not trust Christ today?

After you trust Christ as your Savior and Lord, make sure that you spend time with God every day by reading the New Testament and praying.

Also, meet together with other believers in a healthy, well-balanced church where you can worship God and grow in your relationship with Him and start serving Him in community.
