Bad News!

We’re used to seeing bad news on TV or on our phones. But did you know that the worst news comes from God Himself and affects everyone in the world? That includes you, dear reader. Being holy, God must punish sin; otherwise, He would not be true to Himself and the whole world would be thrown off course. “The wages of sin is death,” states the Word of God (Romans 6:23a). Sin must be paid for.

Good News!

Yes, “the wages of sin is death,” and that’s grim news, but that’s only the first half of the verse. The good news is found in the second half, which reads: “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

When a sinner dies and goes to Hell, he gets exactly what he deserves. Strict justice. Nothing more but nothing less. But when a person goes to Heaven, he doesn’t get what he deserves—he gets what Jesus Christ deserves.

Dear reader, you can’t save yourself.

Salvation “is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). “It is finished” (John 19:30).

Jesus Christ, God’s Son, shed His precious blood on the cross to pay for all your sins (Isaiah 53:5-12; Ephesians 1:7). Then on Easter Sunday He arose from the dead, having conquered all that conquered you (1 Corinthians 15:20-23).

Turn from your sins and embrace Christ as your Savior, and you shall receive God’s gift of eternal life.

The Bible says:

  • “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
  • “... But now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Hebrews 9:26
  • “... The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:15

My friend, life is serious.

Death is serious; salvation is serious; eternity is serious; and your soul is serious. At stake is life itself, eternal life—your eternal life!

No person on their deathbed ever said: “I am sorry I have received Christ and lived the Christian life.” Let the Lord speak to your heart. Do not resist His gracious work. “... the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance” (Romans 2:4). Tell the Lord Jesus you want Him to save you—right now! —Dr. Walter A. Yoho
