Looking for Evidence?

Have you ever heard someone say: “I just need evidence that God exists in order for me to believe in Him.”

Maybe you have said something like that yourself. But, have you ever considered how intricate our universe really is? Our very planet, including everything that inhabits it, appears as though it were intricately designed. The apostle Paul says it this way: God’s “invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made” (Romans 1:20).

God’s existence is made evident through His very creation. Paul goes on to say that we are “without excuse.” Why? Because the evidence is so overwhelming.

The God of the Bible does exist and He tells us in His word that, “It is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). Now, God Himself will not be the one on trial during this judgment. He has provided all the evidence we could ever need of His existence. It will be us who must face judgment for transgressing His law, since “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

What evidence could we possibly bring to prove our innocence when even our “righteous acts are like a polluted garment” (Isaiah 64:6)? The judgment would not go well for us sinners.

Jesus is our Advocate

But, out of His great love for us, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the penalty for our sins. Jesus is, for those who put their trust in Him, an advocate with the Father—one who will stand in their place and plead their case with Him.

“He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world” (1 John 2:2).

So then, it is not evidence we need but an advocate, one which God provided for us. Evidence may be what you seek, but only the Advocate can save you. If you truly repent and put your faith in Jesus, you will be saved from your sins and be reconciled to God!

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
