There was a time in my life that I worked at an old-fashioned Italian grocery store.

Twice a week, we had to block the aisles of the store. Sometimes also called facing the shelves, blocking is when we would bring two of everything to the front of the shelves. This was done so everything would look neat and professional.

Blocking the shelves of the store reminded me of the conversation that Christ had with the Pharisees:

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead man’s bones, and all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity” (Matthew 23:27-28).

The Lord was telling the Pharisees that though they might look and sound good, inside they were full of death. The death that is brought by sin. You can compare this to my illustration at the beginning. Even though the front of the shelves looked good, behind them was a mess.

You see, the Bible tells us in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Because we have all sinned, there is a payment that must be made for our sins and that payment is death.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Although all of this sounds like there is no hope, there is hope.

Jesus Christ came to earth to die for our sins and take the full punishment for our sins: “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

All you have to do is humble yourself, acknowledge that you are a sinner and confess your sins before God. Realize that Christ is your only hope for salvation, and call upon His name.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Won’t you accept Him now?
