Whenever we break the law, we are in debt to the State and liable to punishment to pay that debt; be that fines, imprisonment, or even execution.
The State is able to discover and punish only a small percentage of those who have committed crimes. Of this I am glad, for I know I am guilty of breaking the law of the State. I’m sure this is true of you as well. If one were convicted of a serious crime, he could evade punishment if pardoned by someone representing the state such as a governor. For the pardoned this would be a happy day.
Please consider God, the creator, as the ultimate lawgiver.
When we break his law the Bible calls this “sin.” God, knowing all, knows we are sinners. We, if we have an informed conscience, know we are sinners, as such we are liable to God’s punishment for sin, which is “death.” This is the liability all suffer under, and this is the reason all people must die.
God chooses to have mercy and pardons some. The pardoned are no more worthy of pardon than all the other criminals. They have been chosen for pardon by God; the governor. God promises to pardon all who call on His name.
That name is the Lord Jesus Christ.
He alone was born sinless. He alone perfectly lived out all of God’s law, in thought, word, and deed. He received the punishment of death on a cross for all those guilty criminals God will pardon. He rose from the dead proving God accepted this payment of the debt owed by criminals like us.
He warned, “Unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:24). He promised, whoever calls on My name will be pardoned and saved from the death he deserves, hence given “everlasting life.”
May I urge you to repent, believe, and call on the Lord Jesus Christ and be pardoned today?
You will be happy when God pardons you!
