Are you content with where you are?

We live fast lives, always racing to get things done before deadlines. Meanwhile we are all aware of our final deadline: death itself.

Did you know that the Bible has a simple message about death? Summarized, the Bible says that though all humans are sinners, God loved us so much that He gave Himself, through His Son, to save us. This is the message of John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

What must we be saved from?

From sin! Sin is our rebellion towards God; the God who created us. From birth we are unholy and unworthy of God because of our natural rebellion towards Him. Romans 3:23 states: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This verse is a short but concise summary of our human fallen nature.

But what does sin lead to? The answer is found in Romans 6:23, where it says: “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This explicitly states that because of our sin, we must be given the payment of death. In the same way an employee is paid for his work, we too are paid for our sins. Are you content with your standing before God?

The Bible does not only condemn, it also tells us what it takes to be saved!

God’s provision of salvation was an extraordinary feat, which can be found in detail in the Bible. Summarized it is this: “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). It took Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to die in our place to take our sins from us. These sins could never be repaid on our own, but Christ died and returned from the dead to save us from eternal separation from God.

And what is our response to this? How are we saved? Ephesians 2:8-9 explains it briefly and simply: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” To have faith is to believe. Grace is an undeserved gift given. Those who have faith that Christ died for their sins will receive the gracious gift of salvation. It is given freely, there is no work on our part but to receive it.

This is the simple message of the Gospel.

If you wish to know more, I urge you to read the Gospels—the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There you will find the full story of Jesus.

God allowed the death and resurrection of His Son to happen so that humans, who were previously separated from Him, could be brought back into their relationship with Him. God did this because He loves us.
