Does the knowledge that you are in the last days of your life bring you fear? You are facing the end of your life here on earth. You probably have taken a look back upon your life, your accomplishments, your disappointments, your good works, and the things you wish you hadn’t done. Facing the last days of life brings questions about life after death. Many wonder, “Have I done enough good things to outweigh the bad things that I have done in my life? Have I made my peace with God?” There may be some fear in your heart as you are wondering about what comes next.

You may have been brought up in a religious system or you may have never been in a church in your life. Religion won’t give you the peace that you are looking for at this time of your life. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can give you peace.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

The Lord came to bring peace to the world—not the peace mankind is looking for, but the peace that can only come from knowing God. This is an inner peace which will stay with you beyond this life. You can make peace with God before you die.

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1

My friend, you need to understand that God loves you. You may be thinking of all the incidents that have happened in your life that have caused you to doubt His love. People may have hurt you or circumstances may have entered your life that made you angry with God.

You may also be thinking, “If God loves mankind so much, why does he allow people to suffer?” The short answer to that question is that the Lord never intended man to suffer, but to enjoy eternal fellowship with Him. He created this world and man in perfection, but man sinned, bringing judgment and the corruption of sin into the world. Because of Adam, the first man’s disobedience, death and suffering came upon all mankind. But Lord has promised to comfort us through our suffering if we will look to Him during our times of pain and heartache.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

You see, because of His great love for you (and the whole world), God made a way for us to be saved from the judgment of our sin and be able to live with Him eternally in Heaven. He has also promised to comfort us in our times of deepest need. You have come to that place of great need in your life right now and the Lord is reaching out to you at this time in hopes that you will accept His great love.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

God’s love is not just words that we can hear and think about—His love has been proven to us by His actions. He willingly gave His only son, Jesus, to die on the cross to pay for the sins of the entire world. Mankind is desperately lost because all of mankind has sinned.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Because all people sin, all people will die.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Romans 5:12

No one will escape death. But what happens next?

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”  Hebrews 9:27

After we die, there is a judgment that awaits us. God doesn’t choose where we will spend eternity—we do. The Lord has provided mankind a way to live forever with Him in heaven.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:23

The wages or payment for our sin is death. We know that our bodies will die, but our soul and our spirit will live forever, either in heaven with the Lord or in the lake of fire, suffering eternal judgment for our sin. The Bible calls that the second death.

“And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:13-15

God’s gift to mankind is His Son, Jesus Christ. He died on the cross so that we can avoid the lake of fire, and have eternal life with Him. We don’t earn it, we receive it. It is a free gift!

If you are willing to accept that Jesus Christ died for your sins, and will turn to Him for forgiveness, you can have eternal life. There is no reason to fear death—God will give you peace in your heart.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10

I can lead you in a simple prayer that you can pray from your heart and you can trust the Lord to save you from the penalty of your sin. You may be thinking that the Lord won’t forgive the things you have done. The Bible says:

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

The Lord will forgive anyone that is willing to ask Him. It doesn’t matter what you have done, He will forgive you and give you eternal life.

Will you talk to God right now? The words  should come from your heart, but might sound something like this:

“Heavenly Father, I admit to you that I am a sinner. I know that I cannot save myself from the penalty of all that I have done wrong. I ask you to please forgive me of my sin. I believe that your Son, Jesus Christ, died for me and paid the price for my sin, was buried, and rose again for me. I accept Jesus Christ as my only Savior. Thank you Jesus for dying for me. Thank you Father for forgiving me and giving me eternal life. AMEN.”

If you have sincerely put your trust in Jesus and asked the Lord to save you, He has! You will live for all eternity in heaven with Him. You have nothing to fear now. Allow God’s peace to comfort you in your time of need.
