Acceptance
Growing up in the streets, we all often look for acceptance. A group that will welcome you and take you in as a family member. We want someone we can trust and someone who would have our back if we got into any trouble. Not only do we want their support but we want their loyalty. We want those in the hood to be real with us! Even though we never ask for it, what we really want is to be loved!
But all of the above isn’t there! It may look like some of these qualities are there but they’re not. Meaning: it’s fake! It’s not real! Let me explain.
You may be accepted by some gang members or a group you just want to call your friends. But they’re usually accepting you for what you can bring to the table, what you could offer them. Or simply just to increase the size of their gang. But you’re not being accepted for who you are!
TRUST
You might one day share some personal problems you are having at home or in your life only to have that same person share that information with others later. Now they laugh at you and hold it against you for jokes. And in your heart you are now hurt for believing that you can trust them but they were never trustworthy to begin with!
LOYALTY
And when we find ourselves in trouble and it’s about to go down, and it’s just you and a couple of the boys that said they would have your back, and you bump into rival gang members and they start swinging, your boys start running, leaving you alone to fight your own battles. But they couldn’t stay and be loyal to you because loyalty isn’t in them! So every time you turn around you’re constantly disappointed, because these street aren’t fair! What you thought was there in the beginning, is never there when you really need it!
We don’t realize it but what we are really looking for can’t be found with drug dealers, gang bangers or thugs! It’s not even fair to think that it can be found in them because these attributes are only in the light and they are in darkness. Acceptance, loyalty, trust and love can only be found in God! And Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is the light of the world, came to earth and put all of these qualities in action:
Acceptance and love is found when He said this: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Loyalty is found when He said: “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, behold, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:18-20).
Trust is clearly seen in this statement He made: “Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1). The word believe also means trust. And Jesus was saying that if you also trusted God, you can also trust Me! In the same chapter He also said “believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me” (John 14:11).
He said this so we would know that when we think of God the Father we can think of Jesus with having JUST the same acceptance, trust, loyalty, and love! The only ones capable of showing you these same qualities on the earth and in your neighborhood right now are those who have the Spirit of Christ in them. Including the one who gave you this tract!
Now is the time for you to surrender to Christ Jesus and allow Him to give you a new life, with a new hope, and with new friends, new plans for your future, and a new final destination with Him in Heaven.
Ready to talk with God? You might express your heart in a prayer like this:
Lord Jesus, I am a lost sinner in darkness, and I know that you are the Savior and Light of the world. I believe that you came and paid the price for my sins because you loved me. And if I trust you with all of my heart you would accept me, and be loyal to me and make me a new person. So today this is my heart’s desire, that you would make me a new person and take me out of darkness and bring into the light. In Christ Jesus Name I pray, Amen!
