Suddenly, on a winding mountain road…
“Look out! YIIEEE!!”
Crash!
“I can’t look. Are we dead?”
“No, there isn’t even a scratch on the car.”
“But this cow is going to have to eat a lot more hay before we go anywhere.”
“I can’t believe we’re not dead! Are you sure we’re not dead?”
“Maybe this is what Heaven is like.”
“I don’t think Heaven smells like this.”
“I guess you’re right, but -wow!- That sure was a close call!”
“For the first time I realize that I could die at any moment.”
“And what’s scary is that whether it happens today or forty years from now, I’m still going to die!”
“What do you think will happen to us after we die? I think I’ll got to Heaven… I hope… That is, if I’m good enough.”
“Well…”
“Maybe if I’m not good enough I’ll be reincarnated. Yeah! That’s it!”
“Well…”
“Don’t some religions believe that sacred ancestors come back as cows?”
“Sure, then someday you can be a future cheeseburger like our friend out there.”
“Hmmm… Maybe we’ll all just become one with the universe. Yeah, that’s it! Our souls could sort of all blend together into an eternal oneness.”
“Kind of like a cosmic stew, huh?”
“Well, I don’t know… Maybe I’m going to Hell and I don’t even know it.”
“That’s probably where all of my friends will be anyway. It might be fun.”
“Hell? Fun?”
“Well, maybe not. I don’t know. Maybe there is a nothing after we die. Maybe this is all there is.”
“I guaranteed you there is more, but what happens depends…”
“Depends? Depends on what?”
“...on what we do with Jesus Christ.”
“The Bible says, “Whoever believes in the Son (Jesus) has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him (John 3:36).”
“Well that sounds a little too exclusive for me. I think I like the cosmic oneness idea better.”
“God says in the Bible, “Before me, no God was formed, nor will there be one after Me. I, even I, am the Lord (Isaiah 43:10,11).”
“God is a person, not some impersonal force we become part of.”
“Well then, how about reincarnation? A lot of people believe in that.”
“The Bible says, “Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement (Hebrews 9:27).”
“Yike! Judgement?”
“How will I know if I’m good enough to pass?”
“All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23).”
“No one is good enough.”
“Cut that out! You’re scaring me!”
“But if that’s true, who can be saved from judgement?”
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved (Acts 16:31).”
“Oh yeah. You said that earlier.”
“What does it mean to believe in Jesus?”
“It means God loves us and wants to have a personal relationship with us now and forever, even after we die.”
“In Heaven, right?”
“Right. But Heaven is a perfect place, and God is a perfect God. Our sin keeps us out.”
“Because no human being is perfect, right?”
“Right. So Jesus Christ -God in the flesh- came to earth and died for us to pay for all our sins, past and future. Then He rose from the dead to prove He has the power to give us eternal life.”
“Listen to this verse: “Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God (1 Peter 3:18)”
“You have to place your trust in Christ to be your Savior and then you can be sure you will live with God after you die. Jesus said, “Whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned (John 5:24).”
“Sounds great! Why wait?”
“Dear Jesus, now I realize how close I came to missing what You’ve done for me. Thank you for dying for my sins. I now place my trust in You and accept Your forgiveness and your free gift of eternal life. Amen.”
“Don’t wait to have a close call to place your trust in Jesus. Do it today!”
