A vice is a failing or imperfection in character or conduct. More often than not, many of us choose vice over virtue. Unfortunately it is this sin that stands between us and God.
What has sin kept from you? Whether you have gotten comfortable with your poor choices or are struggling against them, any vice has the potential to limit your relationship with God and stunt your spiritual growth.
Is it worth taking the chance? While we desire to do well and be wise, there is a human tendency to lean toward immediate gratification and self-interest. It takes focus and dependence on God to create habits that help us to rise above our weaknesses.
How can I get power to overcome? Power and strength come from God (2 Samuel 22:33). As we ask God for His power and strength, the next step to overcoming our vice is to fill our lives with what is good (Romans 12:21). We can feed our hunger for what is positive and good, while starving the negative.
What will be the result? A life lived for God is worth far more than any material or emotional gain. Having a clear unburdened conscience will allow you to reach goals you never thought imaginable and claim all of the promises available in the Bible. God is able to help you realize your greatest potential rather than just helping you out of your daily predicament. You can walk on into a brand new day as your past fades away.
What if my past haunts me? When your sin fails to keep you from focusing on Christ, guilt is next in line. Always remember that God forgives you. He erases your sin and you become destined to live with Him in heaven.
Dear God,
Thank you for forgiveness. I need your power and your strength. I cannot make it without you. Continue to walk with me and bless me. Amen
WHAT IF I MADE BETTER CHOICES?
While God allows us to choose, He still wants us to choose Him:
I call heaven and earth to witness against you to- day, that I have set before you life and death, bless- ing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live. Deuteronomy 30:19
Constantly choosing what is against God isn’t good:
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Romans 8:7
Choosing sin may offer some immediate gratification, but it ultimately ends in death: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
Remember that God has the best plan for you:
For I know the plans I have for you, declares
the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
BE BLESSED!!
