God’s Standard

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48).

The 10 Commandments

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image … you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness (lie).
  10. You shall not covet.

What is sin?

We sin each time we break God’s moral law, His Commandments.

There is no one righteous, not even one… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:10,23).

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin (Romans 3:20).

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it (James 2:10).

Sin’s Penalty

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

Maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished (Exodus 34:7).

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).

Each of us will die some day, but this verse is talking about spiritual death, or eternal separation from God in a place called Hell. That penalty is what each of us has earned (our wages) because of our sins.

No amount of good works, church attendance, money, or sacrifices can ever make up for, or take away, the sins we have committed.

Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire… They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.(Revelation 20:15,10)

God’s Love

The Lord is … not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24).

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit (1 Peter 3:18).

God made him [Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Jesus was punished in your place!

Your Response

Repent:

Now he [God] commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). To repent is to change your mind to agree with God’s assessment of your sin and the judgment it deserves.

The Lord Jesus said to His disciples that repentance and forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations (Luke 24:47). Will you now repent and receive forgiveness?

Receive:

Yet to all who did receive him [Jesus Christ], to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12).

God wants you to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as the payment for your sin. When you accept this gift, you will become a child of God.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8,9).

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? (Mark 8:36)

You can know for sure where you will spend eternity!

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life
(1 John 5:13).

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
(John 3:16).
