The coronavirus (COVID-19) has hit the United States like a bomb. We were unprepared for the consequences and changes that would take place in our lives.

Who would have guessed that Christians would be sitting at home on Sunday mornings because their church was unable to “assemble”? Or that children could no longer attend school? Or that workers would lose their jobs, and the national debt would be trillions of dollars higher? That stores would be closed and we could no longer visit our loved ones in hospitals and nursing homes?

Who would have guessed that graduating seniors would be deprived of their Junior/Senior trip and prom and graduation ceremony? The thought of being or becoming a nurse may suddenly have become much less glamorous. The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely changed many plans—reunions, trips to see new grandchildren, sporting events, birthday parties, and so much more.

Perhaps we’re all wondering—“How many will die? Are the precautions worse than the disease? When will all this end? Is there a cure for this pandemic?” I know that work is being done to develop a vaccine, and there is wide-spread study, experimentation, speculation, discussion and (yes) disagreement about medical treatments that may or may not be effective in battling this new disease.

I’m sure that one of these days, Lord willing, a vaccine and approved medications will be developed, but at this moment the situation seems to be beyond our human expertise, and out of man’s control.

We have no choice but to look to God for help.

He already knows the solution. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases (Psalm 103:2-3). God is the one in control. He says in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The new coronavirus is not the only pandemic we’ve had. In considering some of the others, COVID-19 pales. Have you ever studied reports concerning the Spanish Flu of 1918? Without a doubt, the worst pandemic of all has been and still is, the “pandemic of sin.” It’s been present since shortly after creation. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not” (Ecclesiastes 7:20).

The death rate for sin is higher than for any disease, any war, or any pestilence. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a). Sin has infected the entire world. Thankfully there is a sure cure for this pandemic. Romans 6:23b says, “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Acts 16:30-31 says, “…What must I do to be saved? And they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…’”

Sin is such a horrible pandemic! We’ve all been infected, and we will all die and spend eternity in Hell, if we don’t accept the cure for sin—Jesus, who died in our place so that we might be cleansed from our sin and have eternal life. Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Won’t you seek Jesus, the only cure for the worst pandemic of all time—the pandemic of sin? John 1:12 says, “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.” Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

None of us are able to work our own way to Heaven. Our dependence must be totally on Christ, and not in our own perceived merit. “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law” (Romans 3:28). “He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18).

This is because Christ “…was wounded for our transgressions” and by “His stripes we are healed…and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:5-6). “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13).

We are saved “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us” (Titus 3:5). Christ’s work is complete. Jesus said in John 19:30a, “…it is finished.” 1 John 1:7b says, “And the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Won’t you accept God’s cure for the pandemic of sin? Now is the time.
